Sound not working

Inspiron 3030 Desktop

Inspiron 3030 Desktop

I've only had this computer for 3 weeks and I've never gotten any sound out of it. I was thinking that a speaker did not come with the computer but after checking the specks, it does have an internal speaker. I've downloaded all the latest drivers but still nothing.

My USB speaker works and so does my bluetooth headset.

I'm thinking the computer is flawed and perhaps I should return it to Costco.  Appreciate any input.

Thanks

Hi,
System sound settings and Device Manager should display the speaker if it is integrated into the desktop. I see that the external speakers work, indicating that it's not an issue with the chipset. Certain desktops have BIOS settings that need to be enabled for inbuilt/integrated speakers. Installing the Chipset and Audio drivers is a good step to try and potentially get audio from the inbuilt/integrated speakers.

Re: it does have an internal speaker.

if there is an internal speaker it is only for motherboard beeps.  it is not connected to onboard audio controller.

Well...after they ran a hardware check on my system, I was told by Dell tech support that there is no speaker and I cannot add one to the computer as it will hurt the mother board. I just connected a blue tooth external speaker and that's that. Disappointing that Dell does not spell this out on the packaging. I've never bought a computer that does not have speaker capabilities 😂...but not the end of the world.

my old lenovo A60 desktop does have an internal audio speakers which makes Windows chime sound on XP but it is not of good audio quality.  these oem prebuilt pc normally do not supply good quality audio speaker anyway.  users who need good audio use external speakers of choice.  Dell also supplies  audio speaker accessories but there are many other reputable speaker brands.

Both Inspiron 3030 Desktop and 3030 Small Desktop can be directly connected to wired speakers!  You have to plug the speakers into the green "line-out" port (#1) on the back panel and set the Output device on the Windows Sound screen to use Cirrus High Definition Audio.  So you don't have to use BT speakers.

If you don't already have speakers, you need a pair with a cable that has a 3.5 mm plug for the PC and come with an AC adapter to power them. Lots of choice, and you don't have to buy from Dell...

I built PCs for some 15 years. I've never seen a desktop with speakers suitable for entertainment sound. They are simple speakers to allow for the beeps for BIOS and other functions. Sound for music/video requires a sound card, either built into the motherboard or attached via slot.

I suspect you are confusing a Desktop's configuration with a Laptop.
