Reset password.

My son forgot the Password to star the lap. "To reset password Connect a USB flash Drive" I read in the scream.

My question: What is it and where I can get one.?

The computer is not used for 3 years.

@Marcotono  Never post your Service Tag in an open forum like this. Treat your Service Tag as private info, and only share it with Dell-Cares by Private Message through this forum, if they ask for it.

Wouldn't be much point having a password, if it was easy to reset it. Otherwise, anybody could change the PW and be able to see everything on your PC...

Are you sure a Windows password was actually set? Was Windows set up using a Microsoft account? In this case, it should be the same password used for that account.

@Marcotono

The fact that you do not know what usb password recovery flash drive is means you do not have a recovery flash drive and therefore there is nothing that can be done.

You will not be able to access the data. If there is a bios HDD password you wont be able to access the computer.

You must remove the hard drive,  reinstall a new hard drive and reinstall the OS clean on a new blank hard drive.  3 year old or more system is also likely out of warranty and cannot be extended so you are at End of Life End of Support.

Always include exact PC model and version of Windows in your posts...

Hi

If you have, or can get a USB flash stick/flash drive, 8GB or larger and have access to another computer you may be able to Re-Install an operating system, like W10 for instance.

I would try and download any drivers for your device from the Dell website, especially any Ethernet/Wi-Fi drivers.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10

The above link, if you are lucky, will make a new bootable USB to install and make usable your device.

I assume that in 3 years of non usage the data on it is pretty much unwanted.

If in doubt please ask

@Marcotono - After not being used for 3 years, the motherboard coin cell battery is probably dead. So you should replace it before going any further.

Since you never mentioned the exact model PC number, I can't point you at the right Service Manual which will have instructions to replace that small battery, which typically is only ~$2.

Thank you. The laptop is an Inspiron 3252 , service tag: .

I don't understand why it is complicated to reset a password.

Is there another form to create a password reset disk?
