Power supply in Inspiron 5675 keeps braking.
I installed a new power supply and the power supply just died after a month. I was wondering if anybody could tell me what else can I change before I buy a new computer. Also, is it possible to remove the hard drive and install it in a new PC is I don't get it to turn on. Thanks

First of all a PSU that fails that quickly could be a flaw in the PSU. Most if not all have a warranty and I would contact the manufacturer. The cause of the failures could be voltage spikes or outages on the incoming line which can damage a PSU. It could also be a component in the PC causing a failure such as a drive shorting but that is not likely. I would strongly suggest looking into purchasing a UPS which will protect the PSU from any voltage variations on the incoming line. As far as moving the HDD to a new system, I have never been a big fan of that especially if the new system has very different specs from the old system. It can cause blue screens and system lock ups. But others are proponents of moving the drive and I am sure you will get other posts suggesting how to do it with a minimum of trouble.

Is the replacement PSU a Dell OEM PSU or an "after-market" PSU? And what's its watts rating? Is it big enough to power this PC? The stock Inspiron 5675 PSU is 460W.
What are the symptoms of your dead power supply?

@RoHe The new PSU I installed is: EVGA 110-BQ-0500-K1, 500 Bq, 80+ Bronze 500W, Semi Modular, FDB Fan
The PC was connected to this battery backup for about 4 years the first time it turn off, and didn't turn back on: APC UPS Battery Backup Surge Protector, 425VA Backup Battery Power Supply, BE425M
But this time I purchased this surge protector instead: Belkin 7-Outlet AV Power Strip Surge Protector with 12-Foot Power Cord and Telephone Protection, 2000 Joules (BV107200-12)
I thought it was better to leave it connected alone instead of having it connected to the battery together with other things.
The battery is connected to the top wall outlet, and it is still functional. The surge protector mentioned above - where the PC was connected this time - was connected to the bottom wall outlet, and it is still functional. This makes me think that there is something else in the PC that I need to change, or that I purchased the wrong PSU. I am not expert or a PRO like you guys, and this is the first time I install a PSU, but my commonsense tells me that if I would of connected it wrong, the PC would of not turn on, am I correct?
Thank you so much for your time :)

@Vickynikis APC is the leading manufacturer of UPS. As far as the Belkin is concerned, it is a surge protector but is nowhere near as effective as a UPS. It only protects against possible surges but in a power loss it has no effect and that power loss then can effect the PC. Also a UPS maintains a stable voltage during surges or losses. The fact that the PSU failed after 4 years, or so I am assuming , may just be a normal event depending on the make of PSU. They do fail after a period of time in some cases. That EVGA PSU has a 3 year warranty so the manufacturer should replace it unless they determine it was a failure due to other circumstances.

@Vickynikis In addition to what @JOcean already said about contacting the PSU manufacturer, try disconnecting the surge protector from the PC.
Plug PC directly into the wall outlet. If PC still won't boot, you've ruled out the surge protector and you can reconnect it...
BTW: You never told us the symptoms. Does PC get any power at all? Any light in its power button? Does PSU status LED on rear of PC light up?

@JOcean Yes, the first time it failed it was raining and I wasn't home to turn it off before something bad happened. Thank you so much for the information.

@RoHe I tried connecting directly to the wall outlet without any surge protector or the battery. The PC is completely dead. No lights on or anything. The PSU doesn't light up on the rear of the PC.
I am going to contact the PSU manufacture for a replacement and look to buy an APC UPS. Could you recommend a PSU incase the EVGA PSU manufacture doesn't replace it? Thank you very much.

@Vickynikis - Sorry, but I can't make a PSU recommendation but there are lots of threads about replacing the PSU in Inspiron 5675 which you can check for other possible PSU choices.
BTW: In case the PSU OEM won't step up to replace it, and assuming you used a credit card for the purchase, check with your card company. Some of them offer (free!) coverage for an item that breaks within (typically) 30 days from purchase date and/or will add an extra 1 year onto a manufacturer's 1-year warranty. The only catches are you have to replace the item with an identical one, and purchase it with the same card in order to receive a credit on your bill.
Post back and let us know what happens...

@JOcean I went to amazon to check the APC UPS and I just realized that the one I have at home is a APC. The computer was connected to it for 4 years before it stop working for the first time. So, my questions are - if you don't mind me to keep bothering - how can I test the one I have to see if it still protecting, or does it automatically stop protecting after the PC got damaged? The battery works but how do I know if still protecting from surges. Also, am I suppose to change them every certain amount of years? Did I need it something more powerful? What do I look for when purchasing one?
This is the one I have: APC UPS Battery Backup Surge Protector, 425VA Backup Battery Power Supply
Thank you very much!

@RoHe I am waiting for Amazon to revise the item when arrive to them for the refund, but thank you so much for the information about the credit card because I didn't know about that. It would definitely help.
Also, thank you for the link you posted. I am going to check it out right now.

What is the difference between the APC UPS BR1500G , BN1500M2 , and the BX1500M?
Thanks :)

You may want to ask APC tech support about those 3 UPS.
