Insprion 5680 upgrade to a dell oem 1650 gpu

Hello everyone, I have a question.
Would a dell oem 1650 or 1650 super be compatible with my Inspiron 5680?

Lots of threads about updating GPU in the Inspiron 5680.

Basic questions:
What GPU do you have now?

Do you have a 460W PSU?

Does your PSU have a PCI-e power connector cable for the GPU?

Does that PCI-e power connector have 6 or 8 pins?

The Dell OEM 1650 is rated at 75W and may not need a PCI-e power connection. The Dell OEM 1650 Super is rated at 100W and may need a 6-pin connector.

Notes:
You don't have to buy an OEM GPU, but make sure your PSU meets the "recommended" size requirement for whichever card you want, especially because "retail" GPUs typically require bigger PSUs than OEM cards with the same GTX number. And also be sure your PSU has a suitable PCI-e power connector cable.

If you buy a "retail" GPU, you may have to disable Secure Boot in BIOS before you swap in the new card. Otherwise the PC may not boot.

What GPU do you have now?: 1050 2GB

Do you have a 460W PSU?: Yes, it's 460w

Does your PSU have a PCI-e power connector cable for the GPU?: Yes

Does that PCI-e power connector have 6 or 8 pins?: The large part has 6, but there is a small cable connected to it that has an extra 2 as well.

Either of those cards probably will work. But look at some of the other threads on this topic to see if anyone has actually installed either of them.

Not the 1650, but it seems that someone got a 1660 to work. I think that I'll take a risk and give it a try.  Thank you very much for helping me!

You're welcome.

You can also look at UserBenchmark to see what other GPUs have been installed in the Inspiron 5680.

My big gripe about that site is they never mention the size of PSU being used, especially with the higher end GPUs that are listed. So keep PSU requirements in mind for whichever card you choose.

Post back and let us know how your upgrade goes...

It went great! I purchased a PNY 1650 Super and installed it with no issues.
