Inspiron 660s update from A9 to A13 bios updater FAILS:

Hi, I just purchased a Dell Inspiron 660s with A09 bios. Windows 11 is installed. Developer tools have been turned on. When the A13 installer is run from Powershell, the installer completes with a note: 'Installer has completed, please powercycle to complete bios update'. Entering bios again (f2) the machine is still displaying A09 BIOS Revision. Do I need to install Windows 7 with Intel Managment Engine drivers to *engage* the bios update properly?  If not how can the bios on the machine be updated?

you can create a bootable USB using Dell method

https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000145519/how-to-create-a-bootable-usb-flash-drive-using-dell-diagnostic-deployment-package-dddp

A10 is not available and Dell had probably pulled it.  BIOS versions available on the internet often skip versions.

It is not mandatory to flash to 11, 12 then to 13.  It is just recommended not to flash across large gap.  in this case flash to 11 first is the safest first test.

first replace cmos battery with a new one then clear cmos settings by motherboard jumper

second if BIOS upgrade is absolutely indicated, try first a small incremental flash to A11.  if good, next to A12, then to A13

A12 17 Apr 2018
A11 19 Nov 2013

if you can not even flash to A11, find a service jumper pins on mobo and put a jumper on them, try again,

@redxps630 Thank you kindly for your response, I did not know if anyone would reply. As per your suggestion above A11 when an attempt is made to navigate the page and download the A11 bios version *no* download is available. There is a highlighted, green tag saying "Recommended" , and suggests then going to the latest version.

Would you happen to have anymore insight on this?

-Thanks

@redxps630 Thank you again for your response. Does an A10 release exist? Is it mandatory to (step up) 1 release at each bios update? I am trying to create a USB bootable medium containing DR-Dos 8.1 but am unsure as to how exactly to do so. Creating a Fat16 filesystem and dropping in 'A11...exe' simply refuses to boot (no filesystem found). Current bios settings are as follows for more detail.

Currently the Inspiron 660s version A09 bios settings are as follows:
Boot section:
Load Legacy OPROM = Enabled
USB Boot Support = Enabled
Boot Mode = Legacy

Would you be able to guide me with the proper use of 'setting up a medium using Dr-Dos 8.1'?

Thank you again for your replies.

@redxps630 I wish to thank you for your help with this. This Dell DDDP tool, when following directions as per the page you suggest above appears to work seamlessly with the bios update procedure on Dell Inspiron 660s.

-Thank you
