Inspiron 660s Inspiron 660s 64bit

My computer was bought in France about 10 years ago. It worked well until Windows informed me that I could not upgrade to Windows 10. I asked Dell Support if they could provide a hardware update and they were stupid and said I had a software problem. No, I have a hardware problem and I am contacting the manufacturer of my product. Maybe I should go home to Texas because Dell France does not understand even French.

This is a good guide to upgrading for free. It includes important first steps, like ensuring your files are backed up before starting.

@Inspiron 660s Inspiron 660s 64bit

Windows 8 key in bios will work fine for clean install of windows 10.

Windows 8.0 will not upgrade to 10 its end of life.

YOU MUST update to 8.1 and install all security updates.

After that an update now may work for 10.

A clean install to 10 absolutely will work using the

"I don't have a key option" then installing home or pro depending on your version.

These are the minimum hardware requirements for installing Windows 10.

Please tell us your system configuration (CPU, RAM, hard drive space, Windows version) and what problem you encountered attempting the upgrade. The hardware requirements are fairly lenient, so presuming your system is running Windows 7/8/8.1 with a valid license, you probably can upgrade your system to Windows 10 for no cost.

Whether the system will perform well running your desired workload is another matter; it is ten years old after all. Windows 10 will impose more overhead than prior versions, so you may perceive a performance impact. You may be able to improve performance by adding memory and replacing an HDD with an SSD, but a new(er) system may be the hardware upgrade you really need.

According to Dell, Inspiron 660s supports Windows 10. https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/drivers/supportedos/inspiron-660s

steps to upgrade to Windows 10:

Download Windows 10 ISO.

Mount it.  ( https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/mount-an-iso-image-in-windows-vista/ )

Double-click on setup.exe

If Windows 10 won't install using this method, you could try a clean installation.
