Inspiron 660, replacing failed integrated graphics?

I have an Inspiron 660 that I'm happy with.

Apparently something in the integrated graphics failed because it will no longer drive an HDMI monitor (checked the monitor and it works).

Is it possible to install an add-on graphics card to replace the integrated graphics?

Thanks

when you say apparently hdmi failed, did you test the motherboard integrated VGA video port using a working VGA video cable and monitor?  If VGA works but hdmi does not, try replace cmos battery with a new battery and clear cmos settings via motherboard jumper.  If no video on VGA either, then you may have a no post issue.

say your motherboard works except for hdmi, then you could install a simple Dell gpu such as this one w hdmi https://www.ebay.com/p/2256056678

You can and this forum thread has more information. Basically a GT 1030 or GTX 1050 would work well.

@jc in VA  -  Did you recently move this PC, install any new hardware inside, or replace/add a monitor...?

Are you sure you don't already have an add-in video card installed? The onboard Intel Graphics ports are disabled when an add-in video card is installed, so the monitor has to be connected directly to the add-in card.

#15 = onboard Intel HDMI port
#16 = onboard VGA port
#18 = area where ports on add-in video card are located

Will (J27RG = OEM Nvidia GT 730) work with an Inspiron 660?

Thanks,

Thank you.

Popped the old battery out, put a new one in, turned on and reset the BIOS, and it works like a champ!
