Inspiron 570, power on but no light in front

We had our power go out last night and upon turning the desktop back on which is plugged into a power strip, the fan and system turn on but there is NO light on the power button.  I cannot turn off the system using the power button either.

What I have done:

I have reseated the system drive, cleaned out the system of dust and tried another power cord.  Not sure what else needs to be done for troubleshooting.

Please advise,

Serge

First remove the power strip and plug into a known good outlet. The strip might have done its job. Explain "power on but no light"  Is the computer working at all? After a power surge or outage, you should open the case and check for any damage. Remove any removable card--especially a network card, phone modem etc. any card wired to the internet or phone line. Try to start the computer. If it starts up and works, one or both of the cards could be damaged and must be replaced. If that doesn't work remove the video card if you have one and use the integrated video. Power surges can destroy your computer. Be prepared to buy a new computer

Thanks for the suggestions.  I moved the computer to another outlet and tried using the onboard video but that did not work.  I'm wondering if it's something major, when i turn on the system, the Fan and system appears to work but I do not see it go into POST.  No lights are generated and when I hold down the power button after turning on, nothing happens.  Only way to power off is to unplug.  Not sure what the next step is but to try to recover data.  Thoughts?

btw - I removed the service tag as requested.

Does the power supply LED on back of PC come on when it's connected to a working outlet? If not, there may be a problem with the power supply or the power cord.

You can try clearing BIOS:

  1. Power off, unplug
  2. Press/hold power button for ~15 sec
  3. Open case and remove motherboard battery (check Service Manual for details)
  4. Press/hold power button for ~30 sec
  5. Reinstall the battery (Time for a fresh CR2032 3-volt coin cell battery? ~$2)
  6. Close up and connect mouse, monitor and keyboard
  7. Reboot

And file a complaint with your power company asap. Some of them have insurance for damage caused by an outage, if the outage was their fault...

EDIT: And read How to Troubleshoot a No Power Issue on your Dell Desktop
