Inspiron 5680, got a 0151 error code, replace HDD?
Hi,
I have an inspiron 5680 with a failing Harddrive which unfortunately needs replacing. Can anyone help advise? If someone can help with simple steps that would help save me! I will consult the manual for the actual replacement but it's what happens after when I try to boot up that concerns me. I tried to replace my SSD before and my computer was having none of it so gave up. Also if anyone has any advice/suggestiions for the type of HDD to get please let me know. I want to get it changed before it completely packs up.
I have backed up my C drive using Marium yesterday but I might download windows 11 seperately just in case as I also have another back up with my files which I did drag and drop style.

First, you may want to review this article for understanding and troubleshooting the hard disk drive or solid state drive in your computer. Scroll down past midway for instruction on how to replace the hard drive.
Second, refer to the service manual to get familiar with working on your system.
Next, set your plan and budget to replace or upgrade your system storage.
And finally, posting any specific question you may have before proceeding with the work.

First, replace the size 2032 CMOS battery. That is likely why your 5680 was having none of the SSD. Bad batteries affects BIOS, which also affects if it finds drives or not. You might not be able to load SSD/HDD with bad battery. You might also try if that doesn't work: How to Perform a BIOS or CMOS Reset and Clear the NVRAM on Dell Computers
I highly suggest using an SSD for a boot drive. Windows updates and restarts are painfully slow on an HDD. SSD's work good for speed and HDD's for storage in many PC's.
