Inspiron 5676, can't get light bar controller application to install?
Reinstalled windows using a media drive, had no lights working but got it to work running the lightbar system configuration.
Then tried to install the light bar controller application, but it says "This software cannot be used in current product!". Have also tried after rebooting, but to same results.

Version of Windows?
Did you install all the drivers for your specific PC?
I only see a version of Light Bar Controller App listed for Win 10 on Inspiron 5676 support page, but not one for Win 11.
Don't know if that's just an oversight, and/or if there's a newer version that works with Win 11, or if this feature isn't supported in Win 11...

Ah, I have Windows 10, and as far as I'm aware I've got drivers for everything (I'm not noticing anything not working so far), but have not installed any dell-specific drivers.

Win 10, so it should work. BTW: What "media device" did you use for the re-install?
Open Device Manager and see if any device is marked as having a problem, and/or if there is any "Unknown Device" listed anywhere in Device Manager.

I used Windows' media creation tool to make a usb drive for the reinstall process.
No sign of any device with a problem, and no unknown devices listed. Just in case I enabled the option to show hidden devices but they were all fine too.

That sounds reasonable...
Are there any options in the light bar system configuration software about installing/using the controller app?
When you tried to install the controller app, did it prompt you to install any required prerequisite software before installing the app?
Is it possible you can't have both the light bar system configuration software and light bar controller app installed/running at same time?
I'll ping my Dell tech contacts to see if they can help...

Got a suggestion for you from one of my contacts...
Download Revo Uninstaller (free) and use it to uninstall the light bar system configuration app. Be sure to let Revo create a system restore point before it uninstalls the app, and set Revo to used "advanced" scanning.
After Revo runs, it may present you with a number of screens showing leftover stuff that wasn't removed. The leftovers will be marked in bold on those screens. Check only the bold items on the screen and click to continue. NEVER delete anything listed in red.
When Revo is done, reboot and then try to install the configuration software again. Then reboot and try to install the controller app again. Would be a good idea if you download fresh copies of both of them, before attempting to install them again...

@k_jack , by chance, did you install the AMD chipset driver for your system.

@RoHe Noting in the light bar system configuration software about the controller app, just to install or to extract files.
When trying to install the light bar controller application, after hitting install it just says "This software cannot be used in current product!"
Tried installing the light bar controller application before I eventually installed the light bar system configuration, but that had the same message as above. The lights only worked after installing the system configuration.
Launched the portable version of Revo Uninstaller, but the light bar system configuration app does not appear there.
@Chino de Oro I did not install the chipset driver, or at least not the one that you linked to. I was using Driver Easy to scan my computer for devices and letting it download/update drivers as needed.

If you're willing to start over, you could use the Dell OS Recovery Tool to create a bootable USB for your specific Service Tag. Then see if the light bar and its app work correctly that way.
Just keep in mind, the Dell OS image will probably be out-of-date so you'll have lots of Windows Updates to install, plus your apps, etc. Make sure personal files are backed up elsewhere before using the tool.

Considering I lost a lot of time already reinstalling windows and getting things back to a state I'm happy with, the idea of doing it all over again for the second time in two weeks and adding more work is not that appealing.
Thanks for trying to help, it's a shame that the solution is resetting everything again. I'll probably just disconnect the lights the next time I open up the PC.

Any reason why you did not want to install Dell driver as suggested? If it does not resolve the issue, it would not cause any harm neither.
