Inspiron 3910, mouse, keyboard freezing
I have a 8 month old DELL INSPIRON 3910 desktop PC.
About twice a week the mouse and keyboard completely freezes and becomes unresponsive.
The only way I can get the PC to work is by switching it on from the main PC button on the front of the machine.
I've checked on MY DELL and everything appears to be up to date.
I've tried the mouse and keyboard dongle in different USB ports but this doesn't help, I've also uninstalled recently added programs.
Can someone please help me as this is really annoying?
I certainly don't want to reinstall my PC back to factory settings as I've installed hours of things on the PC.
Thank You for anyones anticipated help

An update on my Dell Inspirion 3910 freezing.
I've tried replacing the wireless mouse and keyboard with new ones , but still my PC freezes and becomes unresponsive. The only way I can get the PC working again is by turning the on and off button.
I've done all the necessary actions on Dell Assist, check for new drivers, Diagnostics etc..but this hasn't helped the issue.
Can someone please suggest how I might fix this, a system restore isn't an option as I have many programs that will be lost if I do this.
Thanks
This is very frustrating

What do you have in it for RAM and what are some of the most PC demanding programs/games you use?
One can try reseating the current RAM and see if that makes any difference.
How to Perform a BIOS or CMOS Reset and Clear the NVRAM on Dell Computers I know from experience if there's a problem with the BIOS', it will cause freezes and other problems.

Thank you for the reply.
My PC isn’t running any gaming or demanding programs.
I have also reset and installed a more up to date BIOS, but still I’m having the PC freezing on me, probably once a day or so.
Thanks

@airbus777 -Version of Windows?
Does this happen when you try to wake PC after sleep/hibernation, or when using a specific app or just randomly?
If it happens trying to wake after sleep/hibernation, it could be the power plan settings.
Reboot PC and tap F2 when you see the Dell splash screen to open BIOS setup. Make sure USB Wake Support is enabled. If it's enabled, just exit setup without saving the changes. If disabled, enable it and save the changes before exiting Setup. Either way, PC will boot automatically to desktop.
Next, open Device Manager. Expand list under USB. Double-click each USB entry and click its Power Management tab, if it has one. Uncheck the box "Allow PC to turn off...". If the box "Allow this device to wake.." is available, check it for mouse and keyboard. (May or not be available to check even if it's visible.)
Now expand list under Human Interface Devices in Device Manager and uncheck that same box for any HID entry that has a Power Management tab and check Allow to wake... for mouse and keyboard, if available. Exit Device Manager when done.
Next, open the Windows Power & Sleep screen. Click Additional Power Settings. On next screen identify the active Power plan and click Change Plan Settings. On next screen, click Change Advanced Power Settings.
On that last screen, disable Hibernation, Hybrid Sleep, USB Selective Suspend, and PCI Express Link State Management (not all these options may be available in Win 11). Save the changes to the power plan and reboot.
See if that helps...

Thank you for the reply and help.
This happens just randomly not from hibernation or sleep.
I bought a new wireless mouse and keyboard thinking it might be that, but it still just freezes .
Thanks again .

Thanks RoHe for the reply.
USB wake was enabled under the BIOS.
Under the Device Manager I've unchecked Allow PC to turn off for the keyboard, mouse and USB items.
I'm struggling finding what you mention under power and sleep, I have at the moment sleep set to never and and screen set to never turn off. I can't find advanced power settings on my WIN 11 machine?
Thanks again
Terry

Would you have any other ideas how I can solve this, Dell support have just said restore to factory settings, but I've spent weeks and weeks installing programs which I would lose and are difficult installing, along with all the images I have etc....which I do have backed up, but really do not want to go down this route.
If this cannot be resolved will it damage my PC not closing down properly and always having to press the power button to get the PC working again and then having from the blue screen to choose restart windows normally? I'm having to do this on a daily basis.
Thanks

A couple of Screengrabs that may help:
No, your PC won't get damaged. Did you know? Windows recovery can be used with programs and settings save.

Thank you for the replies .
I’ll have another look at the power settings when I get home.
Nice to know I won’t damage my PC by having to power off from the on and off button then restarting windows normally from the option on the blue start up screen .
Today I’ve actually stopped running a couple of programs I normally run all day to see if these could be causing the issue.
I greatly appreciate everyone’s help
By the way I’m running Win 11

@airbus777 - Start>Search: Control Panel. Open Control Panel and click Power Options.
Identify the active Power plan and click Change Plan Settings. When that opens, click the link for Change Advanced Power Settings toward the bottom of that screen.
On next screen, change the settings I mentioned above (if available) and be sure to apply them before closing this screen. Then reboot and monitor performance...

Hi RoHe
I managed to find the advanced settings under the power option, but I can't see where to change the things you mention to do, please see screenshots attached.
Thanks

Under HD it doesn't give the option to turn off, just minutes? I have 15 mintes set at the moment
USB selective suspend it gives 2 options enabled or disabled
PCI Express power management mine is set to Moderate Power Setting
Thanks

Turn off hard disk - change to Never
USB Selective Suspend is under USB settings. Make sure it's Off or Never.
PCI Express settings that RoHe mentioned are there too.
What specifically isn't being found?
