Inspiron 3910 Memory Upgrade Options

I found the specs for the desktop memory (1.2V DDR4 3200 dual rank).  Anyone have success with the various options out there (other than buying from Dell)?

I bought a Dell 3910 last December.  Came with 8GB of ram made by Samsung.  I purchased another 8GB stick made by Crucial (CT8G4DFRA32A) from Newegg at the same time.  Same 1.2v, CL22, 3200MHz speed as the factory installed ram.  Installed the added ram the day the Dell came in.

No problems whatsoever.  Got the Crucial for less than 40 bucks.

Crucial is suggested as its guaranteed to work in a Dell.

If you are adding a second DIMM rather than replacing, I'd suggest the same manufacturer as what's already in your system, even the same model number if possible. Note the system doesn't support mixing sizes.

Hi. I bought a Crucial 8GB CT8G4DFRA32A part from Crucial. It took about 9 days to arrive as it came from Czechoslovakia. It works fine.

I just tried some high end "gaming memory" from Neo Forza and it didn't work.  Honestly, I'm VERY shocked as I'm a computer tech for 25+ years and just didn't expect this kind of compatibility hiccup.  The brand new ram I bought on Newegg is

Neo Forza FAYE 16GB (2x8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) SDRAM Desktop Memory Model NMUD480E82-3200DG20

The problem is likely that the Neo Forza ram is 1.35v (it's gaming ram with overclock ability) and these darn new Dells just don't like that.  Oh well

@Elite_Dell  Dell's have a long history of memory compatibility with non-Dell branded memory.  I've been on this forum since 2002 and memory is one of the most often issues.  Some brands will work on one and not another of the same model.  For this reason we suggest Crucial as it is guaranteed to work on a Dell.

I was wondering what is the max amount of ram that this PC can take? On the description of the pc on dell.com is says available up to 16 GB, but when I went to best buy the sales associate said it can take 64.

Apparently it's only sold in configs up to 16GB, but it supports 64GB according to the Setup and Specifications manual.

It actually does, as the Costco off the shelf has 12GB ram.

Hello, I successfully updated the Inspiration 3910 to 64GB, with the Crucial memory,  SKU: CT2K32G4DFD832A, Product Name::2-32GB DDR4-3200 UDIMM 1.2V CL22.

This one does NOT work: CORSAIR - VENGEANCE LPX 64GB (2PK x 32GB) 3200MHz DDR4 C16 DIMM.

Caveat: You may need to update your BIOS, with Dell's SupportAssist app, to get the larger amount of memory recognized.

Thats a bunch of baloney. We have multiple Vostro 3910's that refuse to boot with known good Crucial memory. Caled Dell support and they were acting completely clueless.

I haven't seen the options for that particular version of the Inspiron,  but if you type [I'm going to use RAM as an example cuz I'm guessing that's what you're upgrading] type into browser

RAM for "Inspiron 3910"

Be sure to include the parentheses where I did, around the name and model of your PC and you should get a boatload of stuff popping up. If whomever is selling doesn't specify which computers it works with, ask them! It's easy as pie. As for putting it in the PC, plenty of sites and YouTube videos will walk you through that too. Just remember to always unplug ALL wires and cables going to or from the PC and hold down the on/off button for 15 seconds or more (gets rid of any residual static or elec charge that's in the PC). And, finally, touch something that's bare metal to ground yourself so YOU don't pass any static onto it. Better yet, wear a pair of gloves (the surgical type, not the 'I'm building a snowman' type (LOL). Hope that helps. Have a good day!

so, what RAM did you find that DOES work?  I've purchased 2 different types, the Kingston Beast 32GB 3200 and the Crucial (same specs) that was guaranteed to work with the Inspiron 3910 and no dice.
