Inspiron 3910 and Extra Space or Storage Options
Inspiron 3910
Hello,
I purchased this computer from Amazon.com. It seems that it works well. The computer is fast, well put together, and reacts quickly to commands.
Now...
About the extra SSD I want to purchase for this computer, does my specific model have peripherals designed to handle more than one drive?
I opened up the computer to see if I could find some extra space or connections for SSD M.2 drives. I did not find any?
Does this notion sound correct?
Seth
P.S. I was thinking of putting another system on a Dell M.2 drive.

If you want to have two M.2 ssd in 3910, you can use a PCIe ssd adapter card for the second ssd and install in the x16 PCIe slot if you don’t have a video card installed there. The motherboard has only one M.2 slot for ssd.
Dell spec: storage options on your Inspiron 3910.
2.5-inch hard-disk drive
SATA AHCI, up to 6 Gbps
3.5-inch hard-disk drive
SATA AHCI, up to 6 Gbps
M.2 2230 solid-state drive
PCIe Gen3 x4 NVMe, up to 32 Gbps
M.2 2280 solid-state drive
PCIe Gen3 x4 NVMe, up to 32 Gbps

Hello,
Thank you. I must have misread and interpreted things incorrectly from reading and viewing the interior components of the machine in question. Thank you. Also, is it possible to handle a 2.5 SSD and M.2 SSD in one set up for this machine?
If I cannot have two M.2 SSD drives b/c of the way this machine is wired, okay. But...does this machine allow for M.2 and 2.5 SSDs in one configuration?

no limit on size of ssd. The pc is all ready to handle one 2.5” sata ssd + one m.2 ssd.

Apologies for hijacking the thread, but going the SSD adapter card route, are you limited to 2TB as well? If not, how big of an M.2 drive will the 3910 handle, or does it depend on the adapter card?
Thanks!

Thanks! I'm going to go the PCIe x16 adapter card route then as the motherboard SSD slots are already taken. Planning on putting a 4TB M.2 SSD on the adapter card. Dell doesn't sell these adapter cards, any recommendations?.

Hello Again,
I still seem to be missing something. On the page where I purchased this computer, it states x1 or x16 PCIe cards accepted. Am I wrong or is that completely incorrect?
Let me get a photo going...
Does this configuration seem correct. I have not seen additional steps in the Q & A of this computer for adding specific cards outside of the x1 and x16.
Do you know what size the black connector may be now and what size that blue connector is now just by looking at it?

Okay and Sorry for Exacerbating Here,
But...
I got a StarTech.com PEXM2SAT32N1. I know this does not fit since I tried to fit it.
The issue is not w/ Dell or this community or even Amazon where I made the purchase. It is w/ the market in general w/ the way things are conveyed (at least this is where I am at now).
So, it says NGFF M.2 and it also says PCIe 3.0 as the type. I read above in the remarks for my issue.
I thought I could purchase and make things work. Oops. I made another mistake. x1 is not 1 x PCIe M.2, 2 x SATA III M.2.
Sheesh. Things have been explained well here. Thank you first off. Outside of that idea, I think specific Amazon-Dell-Markets are allowing for specifics to be aloof.
Not the issue of this community at all as far as I can tell.
But...
Is it Dell and the community's obligation to handle these specifics even when certain sellers are selling under a Dell label on different platforms?
I say yes. Now, I do not want to create issues and start complaining every time something is sold by a marketplace/platform under the Dell logo but having it not affiliated w/ Dell.com or Dell in general.
So, I will try to purchase from Dell.com explicitly when dealing w/ further computation needs. I am sorry for causing so much scruff here.
Seth
P.S. So, it needs to be a specific x1 or x16 PCIe card and not NGFF (whatever this means). Phew and blah. I am learning slowly here.

Hello Once More,
I think I may have figured out what happened outside of not knowing normal specs.
The search I performed made it to PCIe x1 and then I search again for PCIe x16. My purchase seems to be a x4. Blah. So, off to the old bandwagon again.

Hello Again,
Okay. So, I got it now. https://www.makeuseof.com/nvme-vs-sata-vs-m2-differences/ is a short of different tech. involving M.2, NGFF, NVMe, and SATA. Phew. There. If anyone gets bored of my rants, that article shows a bit of the tech. side and not the marketplace jargon I keep coming across.
Either way, the Inspiron 3910 I purchased does not accept the listed StarTech.com PCIe dongle.
