Inspiron 3671, discrete graphics upgrade?

I am looking to upgrade the integrated graphics on our Dell Inspiron 3671 to a discrete graphics card. It's situated in a warm room during the winter so ideal to use for some of the time to play old games from say a decade ago during cold afternoons! With the integrated graphics the old games are just about playable but I am looking for a performance boost to play these old titles on this particular pc. I understand the Inspiron 3671 has a 290w power supply unit. There is one 1TB hard drive inside the computer and a 256GB nvme SSD fitted on the motherboard, with 16gb DDR4 ram. Can you please tell me what model cards would fit inside the case, best performance wise (from the current generation of cards?) and what would be ideal for the computer's 290 watt PSU. I don't want to be straining the PSU at all, so something with reasonable headroom power wise would be ideal, but also as powerful as possible. I play games on this computer at 1920x1200 resolution.

I have a separate gaming computer in the house but do not use it during the day when the weather is cold in the winter. I am from the United Kingdom.

without upgrade psu, just using the stock 290w psu you are looking at a gpu that has up to 75W TDP and does not need a PCIe power connector.  290w is enough for these gpu.  GTX1050, 1050Ti and 1650 are the top choices to look on eBay UK or similar local market.  among these 1650 is relatively the newest.

psu estimate of gtx 1650 and i7-9700 16GB ddr4 typical config

Load Wattage:252 W
Recommended PSU Wattage:302 W

load wattage is what you need at min.  290w is fine

3671 stock psu does not have 6 pin black PCIe connector

the inspiron was not designed to support a gpu that has > 75W TDP.

as you found out some vendor overclock a gpu above and beyond Nvidia spec in which case a supplementary pcie connector is needed.

GTX1650 Nvidia spec does not have such 6 pin

Dell oem GTX 1650 does not have it either

Thanks for your reply.

Are there any from the budget range of cards from the current generations of AMD and NVIDIA that I could buy new from a retailer that would fit and be ok power wise? I would rather buy new if possible, possibly in January sales. Appreciate your input.

Separate to my previous post, some retailers are selling the Nvidia Geforce Gtx 1650 brand new still. Would any version of the standard and third party manufacturer's 1650 cards be ok fit and power wise? Usually the third party cards are the same size as the reference design of the cards, but with different cooling solutions.

you need to read the spec of the card carefully to make sure it doesn’t require a 6 pin.  a well known name brand is better than an obscure one.

Thanks. I have a intel core i5 9400f in the Inspiron 3671, so less power draw than an core i7.

This particular card is by MSI. From the photos of the card, it does have a six pin power connector. It is the MSI GTX 1650 D6 Ventus XS OCV3 model. It's still a GTX 1650 but a slightly overclocked one, so same sort of power draw. Why is the fact that it comes with a six pin power connector a problem? Are there not the necessary cables inside the Inspiron 3671's desktop case? Looking on Google this card draws up to 90 watts and recommended PSU is 300 watts. What are your thoughts please?

Ok thanks for clarifying. I will focus my efforts on the stock (non-overclocked) cards - so either a Nvidia stock reference gtx1650 or a dell OEM one, like you said. Thanks for all the info and taking the time to reply.

the outervision psu calculator website is gone so I do not have a reliable one to estimate power need.
