Inspiron 3020 Win 11

The problem I have is strange. Every time I restart my desktop it won't connect to the internet unless I restart my router (BT hub2). Changed router twice so it must be the desktop fault. Support  assist and diagnostic tests say all ok. Any ideas will be gratefully received. Thank you in advance.

Hi

I would use some command line instructions to reset your device.

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

is the simplest.

If in doubt please ask.

Hi

Excellent.  You could type my knowledge onto the back of a postage stamp.

Currently running Debian 13 so some of this will be done by proxy...........

Usually WINKEY + R brings up a little box that you type

cmd.exe and then Shift + Enter opens a DOS-BOX or Command Prompt.

There are a dozen or so commands, and the simplest is probably

ping 192.168.1.1 (or 192.168.0.1)

OR

ping 192.168.0.1 & ping 192.168.1.1

That finds it's way to your router, usually, and should show a time for Wi-Fi of 3 to 5 milliseconds.

############

 Next try...

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

Which should request a new IP connection, it is possible that an IP address can be allocated "twice" and the above hopefully resolves that.

Now for something completely different....

netsh wlan show interfaces & netsh lan show interfaces

powershell Get-NetConnectionProfile

ipconfig /all

The above will list info about the connections, or lack there-of probably.

You can post any NON personal stuff for a detailed explanation if you so wish.

If in doubt please ask.

@anne_droid Sorry for the delay. I've been away. After updating my comp it all seems to be OK now. Restarted 3 times and everything seems fine. I have printed off your suggestion and will keep it for future problems. Thank you for your help.
