Inspiron 3020, no video to VGA monitors

Inspiron 3020 Desktop

Inspiron 3020 Desktop

I am trying to boot up for the first time. My monitors all have a VGA connection. I got an adapter and an HDMI cord, and have plugged it into a USB port on the back. The monitor is a Dell, and the test pattern with four colors appears.  I have been using a Logitech WiFi marble mouse, and have plugged the gizmo into a USB port on the front. Nothing happened when I tried to use the mouse. I switched to a similar corded mouse. Still nothing.   then plugged in the mouse that came with the computer (still front socket 6). The monitor does not respond.

* Why would you plug an HDMI video cable into a USB data port?

Per the online Inspiron 3020 Desktop Setup and Specifications PDF page 5, you have an HDMI video out port and DisplayPort video out port on the top rear.

Inspiron 3020 HDMI out port --> HDMI to VGA cable --> Monitor VGA in port
-or-
Inspiron 3020 DisplayPort out port --> DisplayPort to VGA cable --> Monitor VGA in port
