Inspiron 2320 cpu question

I have this model of 2320. I know it is "old" but I like to tinker. Is it possible since it's release a long time ago in a galaxy far away(so it would seem society-wise lol) to replace my i5-2400s with a cpu other than the recommended i7-2600s mentioned in a 7 year old comment from another thread? I know power consumption is a concern, but Im not that familiar with intel chipsets so wanted advice. Thanks
