Inspirion 3030 - space for a second hard drive?
I have bought an Inspirion 3030 with a 1TB SSD.
In my current XPS desktop there is space for a second hard drive, but I can't find any details on whether that will work for the Inspirion (in fact I can't see any internal photos on the Dell website at all).
Does anyone know whether there is space for a second HDD/SSD internally? 1TB seemed to be the maximum drive size without spending a fortune.....
Thanks.

The system has space for one 3.5" drive in addition to an M.2 SSD.

Whether the mounting hardware and cables are present is open to question - you'll need to look inside the system.

A second 2.5” hdd is possible but you need a Dell metal caddy
3030,3020,and 3910 use basically same oem metal skeleton chassis.
There is oem provision at top for the caddy. It is just not deployed at Dell factory
can you upload a pic of 3030 chassis inside. I think there are two small oem opening at top of chassis to support the metal caddy. That is shown in 3910 chassis video

3030 most likely uses same Dell proprietary sata power cable as 3020 and 3910
This cable has a slim sata for dvd, one sata for 3.5” hdd, and two piggy back sata for dual 2.5” ssd/hdd. the motherboard can support up to three sata devices
max sata matrix would be

Here is a pic of optiplex 3080 MT chassis inside which shows identical oem opening at top of chassis for Dell 2.5 metal caddy compared to 3910 etc. The caddy is mentioned in 3080MT manual but omitted in 3910 etc. manual. Nevertheless Dell proprietary sata power cable in these 3### models always provisions two piggyback connectors for two 2.5” mounted in the caddy.

Thanks for your reply - here's the inside of the Inspiron 3030. I've got a metal caddy from another Dell, but can't see where the two screws attach to the case - can you help please?

Look at Dell pic in my 1st reply. The correct caddy pivots at chassis bottom and snaps in/out at chassis top.

Thanks for your replies - once I realised that you needed to take the front cover off then I saw the slots for the screws. I didn't seem to need a caddy, and could just screw the drive onto the inside front of the PC. Any reason to not do that?

Yes you can do it. If you don’t have any hdd installed yet that place would be the first location for a 3.5” hdd. When you posted your question I misunderstood you already had a first hdd installed and would like a “second” hdd. Looking back “I have bought an Inspirion 3030 with a 1TB SSD.” you only have a M.2 ssd and no hdd from Dell. But if you wonder “Does anyone know whether there is space for a second HDD/SSD”, there was my answer.
You could also install a second m.2 ssd via a PCIe m.2 adapter card,

I purchased a caddy on Amazon for $16.99. Works fine. See:

One the drive is installed, do any BIOS changes need to be made or will the drive just show up after the next boot up?

need to change bios sata operation to AHCI in safe mode first.

it is good idea to switch to local account in Win 11/10 before enter safe mode to avoid PIN issue

Sorry about my ignorance, but why make this change?

Maybe I'll just connect my SSD with a USB connector cable externally since I just want to use this SSD to save backup file. ?
