Insiprion 3030 Desktops

I kindly ask you for a hand on some doubts about the inspiron desktop configuration.
From the manual I read that it has two m2 slots one for the ssd and the other for wifi.
● One M.2 2230 slot for WiFi and Bluetooth combo card
● One M.2 2230/2280 slot for solid-state drive

I was wondering if in these two slots you can connect two m2 nvme + sata or two m2 nvme + nvme. In that case are they bootable?

Another question I was asking myself is, reading this discussion I see that you can use a special bay to install two 2.5 hdd.
I was wondering if in this bay you can install a 3.5 + 2.5 or just two 2.5. The thread I was studying was this

Finally one last question: in the optical drive bay can i install another 2.5 drive ? with a specific bay

One M.2 2230 slot for WiFi and Bluetooth combo card

this M.2 slot does not support M.2 ssd.  the key is different

a special bay to install two 2.5 hdd.

the bay does not fit 3.5+2.5

in the optical drive bay can i install another 2.5 drive ? with a specific bay

yes if you use a slim dvd caddy for 2.5 ssd

@redxps630

But if i use a E-key to M key connector can i use an ssd nvme ? I know i would only have 1x pcie lane; but it can works? Or maybe this mb not support 2 nvme?

Returning to the hdd topic:
so you're telling me there is no way to have a 3.5 hdd and a 2.5 hdd in this chassis?

I was thinking about it. But isn't there a single bay for a 3.5 hdd in this case?

if not, which case/pc desktop have a 3.5” bay slot?

I've already read the manual, unfortunately it doesn't say if there is one or how many hard disk slots are present

Re: there is no way

there is always a way but it would be custom.  Dell does not provide it.

I do not think so for the second q.  the m.2 slot for wlan is only for wlan.

no bay for single 3.5.  single 3.5 is screw mounted on front chassis wall.

Ok, i think that i will use the m.2 slot only flor wlan.

I studied a bit of m2 slot for wlan and i understand that it's not great to use for archiving device due to the possibility of MB incompatibility (not boot etc..) and different powerage management.

I think that i will use this config:
- m2 slot with the stock pcie nvme (
Do you  know what model Dell uses?)

- a hdd 3.5 after market

- a ssd cage to convert the slot for optical drive in a slot for ssd ( https://www.amazon.it/Neuftech%C2%AE-adattatore-Notebook-Laptop-compatibile/dp/B012A9HIGW/ref=asc_df_B012A9HIGW?mcid=a6de5c92cb1439068044b8d1f97bd034&tag=googshopit-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=700874977675&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=9353837036852346970&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9198639&hvtargid=pla-492843593890&psc=1&gad_source=1 this can be ok with the dimension?) For my scope i need two different physical devices and on each a different o.s.

Is it possible to put a 2 slot PCIe card into the PCI slot?  Will a single slot RTX 3050 low profile GPU fit this machine?

An RTX 3050 LP will fit in an Inspiron 3030.

RTX 3050 6GB = 75w; 8GB = 130w

PSU's for the 3030 = 180w, 300w, & 460w.

180w PSU will still power a 75w card, but it's a bit of a stretch.  300w PSU leaves more breathing room.

If going with RTX 3050 8GB, a 300w PSU is needed bare minimum.

Yes, a double-slot card will fit, but watch the length.  There's a chipset heatsink to the right of the blue PCIe slot that could get in the way.  Check dimensions of card being bought against measuring room for it in the 3030.  Can also check YouTube videos, though there might not be very many with the newer 3030.

Thanks for the detailed information.  I thought the 3030s might be too new to have much experience with.  If I move forward, I’ll update the group.

@Nitrous2023

OP (original poster) opened this thread talking about the Inspiron 3030, not the 3030s.  The 3030s wasn't specified in your post.  My answer was based on the 3030.

I doubt the 3030s can take a dual slot card.  May need to check for YT videos, if they have something specific for the 3030s.

Corrected error in my post above:  ...though there might not be very many with the newer 3030.
