G5 5000, retail motherboard swap
I was wondering if I could use the parts in my G5 5000 to insert onto a retail motherboard. It seems possible, but I wasn't sure.
The Reason
Dell's motherboard is proprietary and does not allow me to use other cases. I'm well aware that if I switch motherboards, I will at least need a new PSU and a case; but allowing me to use another case for my desktop allows me to improve airflow and better configure my system
Optional Questions
Just added this section for some extra questions I have, answer if you'd like!
- If it is possible to change motherboards, what wattage PSU is recommended for the specs?
- Is there a case available for Dell's proprietary design?
Specs
- Model: Dell G5 5000
- Processor: Intel i9-10900F
- Memory: 32GB DDR4@2933MHz
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070
- PSU: Unsure (Stock)
Acknowledgements
I know this "upgrade" will be costly, but I would like to do this under my own will. I'd like to mention also that I no longer have a warranty on this desktop, so don't worry about giving me tips that will void it.

All the parts can be pulled and used in a different build. I would purchase a retail PSU and leave that behind, and I would also leave M2 drives behind and purchase a good retail drive.
For PSU I would recommend 850 Watts.
I have canebilized my R10 like this.

Make sure your new motherboard has the LGA1200 socket to support your CPU. I agree an 850 watt PSU would be sufficient for your current specs. Consider a fully modular PSU.
There is no case available that supports Dell's proprietary motherboard without modification.

@NeokoWasTaken - You're probably going to need a different heat sink and fan for the CPU because the ones in the G5 5000 may not fit and/or may not mount correctly on a new motherboard.
And don't forget, you'll also need to buy a new Windows license from Microsoft. The license key you have now is tied to the Dell motherboard and won't activate the OS on a new motherboard. You may actually have to do a clean OS install, even if you keep the Dell OEM M.2 drive, because the hardware may be sufficiently different, so that also means installing all your apps again too.
Make sure everything is backed up before you begin the transplant...

If you keep your current M.2 drive and it boots on a new MB, you'll have to update drivers for that MB. It's easy enough to do from Device Manager. If selecting getting the driver from the internet doesn't work, selecting getting the drive thru Windows Update is also an option.
There is a chance you won't have need a new MS license or product key since you already have an active Windows OS. However, I've only migrated drives within the Dell family, Optiplex 755 > Optiplex 790 and Optiplex 7010 > Precision 3620.
Before migration, if you do decide to do a fresh Windows install, Download Windows 10 Disc Image (ISO File) (Microsoft site) and follow the instructions to create a Windows installation flash drive. Flash drive must be formatted to FAT32 and be at least 8GB or larger.

According to Microsoft...
If you are installing Windows on a new device or motherboard for the first time and you do not have a product key, select I don't have a product key during the installation setup screens. When prompted, enter the Microsoft account you want to use to purchase a digital license for this device. Once the setup screens are completed and Windows has finished installing, go to activation settings: Select the Start button, and then select Settings > Update & Security > Activation . Then select Go to the Store to purchase a digital license to activate Windows.

Yup, wasn't challenging needing an MS license if Windows is installed fresh on new MB.

Thank you for all the helpful responses, here's what I've learned if I want to switch motherboards:
Once again, thank you for all the helpful responses.

FWIW, I just built a new Recording Studio Desktop PC. I used all the drives (SSD's) from the old system as some of my recording studio plug-ins are no longer available. When I first booted up, Windows 11 recognized the new hardware and installed drivers for the new hardware. Everything worked, but Windows was not activated and I had to buy a new Windows license.

A couple of ideas. Not sure if you want Win10 or 11.
