It's depending on what is your specific computer model.  If you installed audio driver properly, you should get a pop up asking to confirm which audio device just plugs in and you specify external speaker (small).

If your PC is one of the model that use Dell Audio or Waves Maxx, for testing, disconnect and reconnect the audio cable to your monitor.  That should trigger the popup selection screen.  If it's still nothing, verify if you have installed the audio driver properly.

Always include exact PC model and version of Windows in your posts.

Did you install the driver (Win 10) for this monitor after the reset?

What video card, AMD or NVidia?

Sounds like you're trying to use audio over HDMI for speakers built into this monitor. If you have an NVidia video card, open the NVidia Control Panel and click Set Up Digital Audio in left pane. When that opens, verify this monitor is correctly recognized there. Then click the button to open Windows Sound settings screen and see if monitor is an available output device now.  ( I presume the AMD Control Panel would have a similar screen.)
