DELL INSPIRON 5680 5 AMBER BLINKING LIGHTS

According to the manual, the CMOS Battery must be replaced.  A new battery was replaced.

Steps taken:

Power turned off, all external devices removed as well as AC power plug.

Cover was removed, and old battery was removed.  The jumper located on pins 3 & 4 was removed and placed on pins 5 & 6.  Waited 5 seconds and placed back into orginal position. This was also done by placing the jumper on pins 1 & 2.

New battery was then installed.

Computer was then powered back on.  The display gets to the Dell logo but does not boot to windows.  Pressing F12 or F2 does not bring up the boot menu.  5 Amber lights blinking still remains.

Request for any suggestions for correcting problem.

Did you wait at least 15 minutes after removing the old battery before installing the new battery?

@JOcean No, I will try this to remove any residual charge.  I can't imagine that kind of charge taking that long to drain but I'll try it.

Or just remove the new battery and press/hold PC's power button for ~30 sec before reinstalling the battery...

When you reset BIOS via the jumper, do it with the battery installed.  Otherwise, it will have no idea you moved the jumper.  According to Dell doctrine, it also says to plug it in for 10 sec. while jumper is on reset pins.  Keep in mind if you do this, PC won't do the initial few sec. power up and down routine. It's also the way I reset my BIOS.
