Dell Inspiron 3646 RAM Upgrade Help

Inspiron 3646

Inspiron 3646

Hello,

First, thank you for helping me. I have a DELL Inspiron 3646 Desktop and I'm looking to upgrade the RAM. I just need some help figuring out which RAM is compatible with my PC and where I can purchase it. I don't do anything crazy on my PC, just your normal web surfing, e-mails, and word documents. It has, however, been running very sluggish and slow. I would like to give it that extra boost like I did with my work laptop.

There is one slot for DDR3L-1333 memory, supporting maximum of 8 GB.  Search in your market, region for DDR3L-1333 memory, 8 GB module.

First, try replacing the size 2032 CMOS battery.  Bad batteries affect BIOS and therefore PC operation.

Still using an HDD?  Swap it out for an SSD.  SSD's are a boost to overall responsiveness.

If that's not good enough, then do the RAM.  8GB is ideal for Win10.  Less than that and it will run slower.

I've been using A-Tech RAM for years.  It has a lifetime warranty and is a great way to save $ on somewhat older machines.  Keep in mind in the RAM description often it will say "laptop" and "all in one."  That's because that's the RAM your 3646 takes.  Inspiron 3646 RAM on Amazon

What version of BIOS is installed?  A10 is the latest.

Version of Windows?

Do you only have onboard Intel Graphics or do you have an add-in video card (AMD or NVidia)? An add-in video card typically has its own RAM, and that would take some of the load of system RAM if you're already at the max (8 GB), and that could improve performance.

Have you scanned thoroughly for malware recently? Malwarebytes (free version) is a good tool for this.

How much unnecessary junk software is running in the background?

How much free space on your drive?

When was last time you optimized the hard drive?
