dell inspiron 24 5410 all-in-one black screen

after dropping my dell inspiron 24 5410 all-in-one on the floor the screen got cracked, i ordered a new LCD and the LCD connector, after replacing them the computer turns on but the screen is black when i press on the screen with my finger i see white color on the back, i tried to connect external screen with HDMI cable the screen turns on but also still  black, when i move the mouse to the right i see the mouse on the external screen moving but it didn't do anything else, no right clicks work or anything. the computer has the white stable light on it on the top of the power button. what the reason it could be, is it something with e moather board or the new screen is no good?

in my experience w Inspiron AIO w cracked screen, you need to have some residual visible video on the cracked screen to switch display to external screen before the external one can work.  After your original screen is cracked were you able to see any video at all?  The crack usually is worst at point of impact and spreads out radially so some edge of screen should still be relatively functioning (at least mine was like that).

before you figure out why new screen is black which could be due to connection or screen itself etc, first confirm pc still able to produce video.  White light means pc posts successfully.

Did you try pressing the display button on bottom edge of screen?

Display Built-in Self Test button/Input-source selection button

This button has two functions:

  1. When the computer is on, use this button to select the video input-source.

Press the button to switch the display between the internal system display and HDMI input.

  2. When the computer is off (there is no power; neither is it in sleep state nor hibernate state), use this button to run the built-in self-test for the built-in display.
Press and hold down this button, and then press the power button to turn on the computer. The built-in color pattern for the LCD monitor will appear on the screen.

@RoHe Hey I've seen you leave this comment on a couple different posts, what happens after? The colors flash but as soon as I let go of the buttons, it goes right back to black so that means that the monitor and power are fine and I have to open it up and check the harddrive right?

@thanksihateit  -  Is this an Inspiron 24 5410 all-in-one?   Do you see anything on the internal LCD screen when you power on, eg, the Dell splash screen?

Are you talking about doing #2 in my post right above yours?

After running #2, do you then press the PC's power button to turn it on "normally" and then follow #1 to see if it's set to use an external monitor, instead of the internal screen?

What color is the power button on PC and steady or blinking when you try to boot normally? If blinking, count the blinks and note their colors, which is an error code.

Have you tried connecting an external monitor or TV using the HDMI-OUT port on the back panel?  Then power PC on and press the button to see if you can get video on the external screen. That can help you decide if there's a problem with the internal LCD panel or somewhere else.

@RoHe Oh wow you replied, I'm so grateful. It is an Inspiron 24 5410 all-in-one, I got here from google while trouble shooting.

But yes! I do mean #2 from the post above. When I press the power button it cycles through inputs, like it's searching for one, it goes from HDMI - IN to HDMI to PC and then clicks off again. I ran #2 and the screen went white then the RGB colors but then it had the same behavior as when I tried to power it on after. No Dell splash screen, no booting, no fan sounds. The light is white while trying to to turn on, is white again when I press the non-power button, but then turns orange right before it powers off again.

I don't have a second screen right now to test with but I'll have one tomorrow, I just think from this test that you mentioned something might be wrong internally and the screen is just fine, what do you think? Have you experienced this before?

@thanksihateit - You're welcome.

It could be as simple as a failing power adapter.  If you're using a power strip or surge protector, remove those and plug the adapter directly into a wall outlet. And before plugging adapter into the PC, press/hold PC's power button for ~30 sec.  See what happens when you boot now.

Then, depending on what happens using an external HDMI monitor or TV, the adapter, itself, may be worth considering next....
