I’ve been trying to upgrade my Dell G5 5000 desktop from an i510400f to a i7 10700kf but after changing the cpu my computer will power on for a second and immediately power off without displaying any error codes and boots up fine when putting my i5 back any help would be appreciated and my computer specs are

cpu:i5 10400f

gpu: rtx 3070

psu: 500w

1tb m.2 ssd

32gb of ddr4 ram

where did you get this i7 10700KF?  Has seller shown you a screenshot to prove it works?

cpu spec is validated by user

@redxps630 I purchased it off eBay and seller had shown it working and it tested I also tried a 10700f from a friend and still the same issue.

replace cmos battery and clear cmos setting.

use i5 to confirm BIOS is up to date and flash BIOS if necessary

then try i7 again.

Are there any damaged lands on the CPU socket?  You may need to carefully look at it with a magnifier or microscope.

@redxps630 I replaced the cmos battery and cleared the cmos setting and checked bios firmware and I am on the latest bios version but still no boot with the i7

Re: tried a 10700f from a friend

can your friend supply proof this borrowed cpu actually works in another pc that shows it is indeed a 10700F?

upload high res pic of your eBay cpu and your friend’s cpu to forum please.  Need to see the label and logo clearly to tell if it is genuine or not.

typically a genuine but incompatible cpu would not have motherboard turn itself immediately off, but simply keeps it power on and just no video.
Re: power on for a second and immediately power off

this report is some clue.

@redxps630 I no longer have the 10700f but my friend did tell me it was a working cpu and had it in an old build here is a front and back picture of the 10700kf
