Dell 88dtl + i5 4590

Hello dell community, recently I purchased a dell 88dt1 motherboard(Inspiron 3847 motherboard) and put a i5 4590. Powering it up I am greeted by nothing. The fans spin up, but no display, the ram works in a different computer. Is the cpu compatible?

CPU should be compatible with LGA1150 socket on the board.  Check cable (4pin), jumper (deploy mode).  If there is no obvious misstep (CPU, RAM installation) during bench test, you might have a faulty board.

Just speaking in general, not all motherboard version has the same jumper settings.  But, the jumper(s) is usually located near the CMOS battery and PCIe slots.  Look for something similar as a square plastic cap over vertical metal pins.  They come in black and/or blue.

Not all motherboard will have clear imprinted language, just abbreviate term.  Just check the setting is on normal operation in case previously user/seller set it on service mode or cmos/password reset.

you need a Dell front panel cable to make the 3847 board POST.  a regular case front panel 9 pin would power on board but no POST.  cpu definitely compatible with board.
