Damaged screen Inspirin 24 5400 AIO

Hi,

My son's computer Inspiron 15 AIO LCD screen has been accidental damaged by our cat, computer fell face down and cracked. :( everything else works fine though. Unfortunately warranty has been expired early this year.

Please could you let us know how much a new screen plus labour is going to cost us through Dell support?

It's an expensive computer and we can't afford a new one anymore.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

While you are waiting to hear back from Dell for a quote, check out Parts People store.  They may have your Inspiron 5400 touchscreen for $100 usd.  Contact them for repair as they usually charge around $100 for labor cost.

I know the quote.  400.  the screen itself is 300.  imo not worth it.  Just use anexternal 1080p monitor with hdmi connected to hdmi out port.  I have a 5400 i7 with cracked screen too and 400 was the Dell quote.  works fine w monitor.

If the screen of your Dell Inspiron 24 5400 AIO (All-In-One) desktop computer is damaged, there are a few steps you can take to address the issue:

  1. Check for Warranty: If your computer is still under warranty, it's best to contact Dell's customer support or the retailer where you purchased the computer. They may be able to provide you with repair or replacement options.

  2. Backup Data: Before attempting any repairs or replacements, make sure to back up any important data on your computer. You can do this by connecting an external hard drive or using cloud storage services to save your files.

  3. Evaluate the Damage: Examine the extent of the screen damage. If it's a minor scratch or blemish, it may not require immediate repair. However, if the damage affects the functionality or visibility of the screen, you'll likely need to take further action.

  4. DIY Repair: If you are comfortable with DIY repairs and have experience with electronics, you may consider replacing the screen yourself. You can order a replacement screen from Dell or a third-party supplier like rearpc. Keep in mind that this can be a complex and delicate task, so be sure to follow a guide or consult with a professional if you're not confident in your abilities.

  5. Professional Repair: If you're not comfortable with DIY repairs or if the damage is extensive, it's best to contact a professional technician or take your computer to an authorized Dell service center. They can assess the damage and provide you with repair options.

  6. Contact Dell Support: You can also contact Dell's customer support for guidance on how to proceed. They can assist you in finding a nearby service center or arrange for a technician to visit your location.

Keep in mind that screen replacement or repair may involve costs, especially if your warranty has expired. Be prepared to inquire about the cost of repairs and consider whether it's more cost-effective to repair the screen or invest in a new computer if the damage is extensive.

Always handle damaged screens with care to avoid further damage, and avoid using the computer if the damage is causing safety hazards, such as exposed broken glass.

@redxps630 you are right. I have found a replacement screen for £300 on Amazon. I have got no courage to buy and try replacing myself. It has be an exact model match.

I have manged to connect the computer with an old monitor and it works fine. I will look into buying a decent resolution monitor. Thanks for your advice.

@Chino de Oro Do you know of a supplier other than Partpeople Store? They don't have it at the moment.

A quick google search has yielded many results.  An example with parts in stock at this current time is from Bliss Computers.  Do your homework and make economic and common sense decision.
