Cannot connect to wifi although other devices can do so. Tried updating network driver but that's not the answer

Doesn't connect to wifi, but does so if I reset router.  Then next time, no connection.  Other devices can access my wifi fine.   I have updated to update the network adapter but that didnt help.

You still haven't told us the PC model or version of Windows.

How old is the PC's motherboard battery?

Check your Windows Power settings...

Open the WiFi adapter entry in Device Manager and click its Power Management tab. Uncheck the box "Allow PC to turn off...". Then close DM.

Now navigate to the Advanced power setting screen for the active power plan. How you get there depends on version of Windows. On that screen, disable Hybrid Sleep, USB Selective Suspend, and PCI Express Link State Management.  And then set Wireless Performance to Max. Save the changes, reboot and see if that helps...

Always include exact PC model and version of Windows in your posts.

Exactly what does "Doesn't connect to WiFi" mean? Is that when you boot the PC, when waking from sleep/hibernation, or something else...?

Is Windows set to content automatically to your WiFi network when you boot PC?

When PC doesn't connect to WiFi (before rebooting router), run the Network Troubleshooter on the WiFi adapter and see what it reports.

Open Device Manager and click View>Show hidden. Now search everywhere in DM for any Unknown device. Right-click and uninstall any Unknown(s). Then click Action>Scan for hardware changes. When that's done, exit DM, reboot and see what happens...

Thanks for detailed response.  Problem occurs when booting PC or coming off hibernation.  In the meantime, I found another wi-fi connection that I can use, and it works.  But still, my main connection continues to work on other devices.   So I';m ok for now.

Since I can use a second source of wifi, I have not pursued this.  BTW,  it's an Inspiron 3847, running Windows 10.  It's 8 years old.  I'll hang onto your reply, Ron, should I need to dig further.  Thank you. All OK for the time being.

After 8 years, you may need to replace the PC's motherboard battery, if you haven't done that recently...

A weak/dead battery can cause all kinds of odd symptoms.
