Cannot boot into Windows 11, which was caused by trying to do a Clean Installation;

I have a USB set up to do a Clean Installation. because I want to change Windows 11 Pro to Windows 11 Home. After going through several steps (of the custom installation option), the computer told me that I did not have enough space, in spite of the fact that Drive 0, Partition 3 had 117 GB of space.  The computer asked me if I wanted to erase the Drive or partition. (I forget which)  I said yes.

Then the problem began.  When I rebooted the computer, I get a message, “Your device needs to be repaired.”  Error 0xc000034.

(By the way, I have an Inspiron 3880 desktop; the program would not let me enter that)

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Mark

From what you have described, very likely that the system could not boot due to incorrect installation.  To fix this issue, you need to perform the installation again.  At the selection of destination step, you delete all the partitions to become one unallocated space and select next to allow the Windows installation re-create all the necessary partitions.

The reasons aside, how do you get to choose Home edition over Professional edition during the installation?

May need to do BIOS reset:  Inspiron 3880 Service Manual - BIOS Reset

I take it the system is less than 5 years old, so CMOS battery should be good.  If not, test or replace.  Then do BIOS reset.

@Chino de Oro - When loading from a flash drive, at the beginning of installation, Windows gives options, Home, Pro, etc.

@bradthetechnut , without manually alter and insert a specific license into resources file, when installing Windows from a flash drive, if the process found an embedded license on motherboard, it will not give users the option to select Windows version.  It would proceed and installing the version matching with license version on motherboard.

Odd, because when I did installs/reinstalls from a flash drive, I got the question.  I think you're still right that the chosen version needs to match imbedded license/product key.  That's not to say I remember it happening every time, but I do remember getting the question.

@bradthetechnut It's not about choosing a matching version of license.  The installation would not give you the option period.  You may have installed Windows 10/11 over a Win 7/8, or digital licensed machine, not an embedded one.

But it was not the main issue of this thread.  I raised the question as courtesy to offer aid if OP has a valid reason to do so.  I see people trying to upgrade to Pro but not downgrade from Pro to Home.

Upon further memory, I think I got the question when loading Win10 to a flash drive.
