BIOS 1.2.23 Upgrade Error: Driver Version Fail!
Hi
I'm trying to upgrade my BIOS from version 1.2.20 to critical update version 1.1.23 but I get the error "Driver Version Fail!". I understand that BIOS versions should be installed one after the other so that there are no gaps however looking at the "Older Versions" on Dell Support there is nothing other than 1.1.23 following 1.2.20 (i.e. no 1.2.21 or 1.1.22)
I've also tried updating via the BIOS update screen (no luck there!)
Bitlocker is NOT enabled and TPM is.
Any clever people out there with ideas as to what I should try next?

Aha- the BIOS needs to be in the root directory of the USB stick!
Thanks for the help

Yup, that'll do it! No other partitions or folders on the FAT32 USB stick.
And to make it simpler, delete all the old BIOS .exe versions from the USB when you copy the latest one onto that stick. That way Flash Update should automatically recognize the file when you tab to the Flash button, without changing any setting in any field. Then just confirm current and new info are correct in top left/right boxes and click the button.
You might not have been allowed to install the same version "on top" of itself, even if the file was in the root directory.

Always include the exact PC model and version of Windows in your posts.
Your title says "BIOS 1.2.23" failed but your post says "1.1.23". v1.2.20 would be newer than v1.1.23 and you probably aren't allowed to downgrade to an older version. So what are the correct version numbers, and are you sure the update you tried to install is for your specific PC model?
BIOS update numbers don't always go in consecutive order, eg, x.20 >x.21>x.22>x.23, and there may not be any versions between x.20 and x.23.
You don't have to install every single version. BIOS updates are cumulative so you can usually update directly to the latest version. An exception might be if you're trying to go from -say- v1 directly to v10, which would be a big jump, and/or if a prior version must be installed before the latest version can be installed, but the Support page would say that.
What do you mean by "BIOS update screen"? Do you mean you launched the Flash Update option from the F12 boot menu? If that's what you did, was there an error message or...?
To use the Flash Update option, the BIOS .exe file (not the .rcv file) has to be on a (non-bootable) FAT32-formatted USB stick. The stick needs to be plugged into the PC with power fully off, not just a Restart from inside Windows. Then power on, tap F12 and select the Flash Update option when the menu opens...

I've just tried to re-install the existing BIOS (1.2.20 - using BIOS flash update) and got the same error. Could my installed BIOS be corrupted?

Hi Ron
It's an Inspiron 7777 running Windows 11. Apologies - it was late in the evening. Yes, I meant the BIOS update screen (see error below)
