Audio device

Sudden staccato sound and no audio device detected after desktop display blinked. OK after hard reboot. This is the second event in months. What's up?

PC Model number and OS?  Always include this with any initial problem post.

The audio problem you report is usually not an audio prob just a side effect of the actual problem.  The problem could be an applications program, OS or hardware.  Since its infrequent, the next time it happens note what application program was running at the time.  Then the next time it happens see if the same program was running.  "Twice in months" you may never know what the problem is.  Could be hardware but with the infrequency it will be hard to pin down.  There are hardware diagnostics accessed by F12 at power on.  You can run the diagnostics, especially the memory diagnostics but again with the infrequency it will probably pass all diagnostics.

@fireberd Thanks for the reply. I will try to pay attention as to what might have been running when it occurs again. As far as I can remember, there were no applications running in the foreground when the problem occurred. The both times it did, it seemed to coincide with the PC display switching over to screen saving mode.
