(a7) me fw downgrade - request mespilock failed 3668 inspiron
There have been a few mentions of this issue with laptops or other dell desktops, but tried some of the suggestions in other threads (disconnecting power source, changing mother board battery, turning off secure boot, etc) and nothing. Any help or reasons why I can't boot? Sometimes it says it's running diagnostics, but it doesn't seem to do that and it just gets caught in a loop. I downloaded a few updates before this happened, but only installed Glary utility update. I left the room and the computer had rebooted itself. When I got back in, is again rebooted itself and then I got the blue screen that the computer was having issues, so it would be a minute while they sent info and then I just went into the mespilock loop.

This is an old problem and not just limited to Dell's, from what I find doing a search. No specific hardware, although one I found was memory related.
Glary utilities may also be to blame, or at least partially to blame. We see a lot of problems caused by these types of problems and only real fix is a complete reinstall. Avoid PC Repair and/or Registry Repair programs.

glary was only scanning, not fixing anything and how do I do a reinstall when the computer won't boot?

@mpsmom96 - Was a BIOS update one of those installed right before this happened?
Was PC unplugged from the wall before you removed the old motherboard battery? And did you press/hold the PC's power button for ~30 sec after removing the old battery, and before installing the new one? If not, try it that way.
What version of Windows? You might try creating a bootable USB (at least 8 GB) using the Microsoft Media Creation Tool with the Windows installer on it, (for Win 10 here). Plug that into PC with power fully off. Then power on and immediately start tapping F12. When the F12 menu opens, select USB boot option.
Assuming the Windows installer launches, follow the links for Troubleshooting>Startup Repair and see if that can solve the problem.
CORRECTION: Your PC should support BIOS Recovery 2 so give that a try after you do the battery thing again, if you do that again. Read/follow the instructions for BIOS Recovery carefully.

Unless bios update was done in the background, it is not one of those things updated. I downloaded 6 updates for various programs that needed updating, but only installed 1 (glary). Might of installed spybot too, but can't recall. the other downloads were cc cleaner, GIMP, chrome and iview (gimp and iview or photo/image editors.
A friend was helping me with the after effects and not only he turned off the powerstrip, he unplugged the power cord from the back of hte machine. The only thing I didn't do was depress the power button for 15 seconds after unplugging and before taking the battery out. I did depress for 30 after taking it out and before putting the new one in. What exactly does that do if the machine has no power (not plugged and battery out)? By the way, as near as I can tell, the battery was dead. I will look at the bios recovery. thanks. On a side note, could a virus have caused this (consider I was downloading stuff) and can a drive that's not booted?

tried bios recovery, 'reset nvram" wasn't an option. on a side note, why tf is my computer powering on when I plug it in (without pushing the power button) and how tf is it starting again after I've turned it off? The power button clicks when I hit it, so I assume it's releasing, but that's the only thing I can think of other than my friend's suggestion of poltergeist.

Picked reset, same loop. Picked recover, got a screen talking about flash. tried rollback and it said it couldn't because, i think, it wasn't ok'ed in the set up. managed to get into set up and unclicked withever box needed to be clicked or unclicked and picked roll back. now flash is in progress updating system bios with bios guard. firmware update was successful, now rebooting. same chit different day. lol. tried to upload some pics, but they're not playing nice. depending on f2 or f12 I can get into 2 different menus. I can get to the dell screen, I can get to "setting" which has a menu of general, system config, video, security, secure boot, intel sw guard exts, performance, power management, POST, virtualization support, maintenance, system logs and supportassist system resolution. no clue what legacy boot is, but tried that to no avail either. the other menu, that I can get occasionally has diagnostics, but it goes no where. Any suggestions other than chuck the whole thing?

got one of the diagnostics to run and it gave me a memory error. Could all of this be due to a memory stick going bad? Error code: 2000-0122 validation 66002

As previously noted memory was the cause for one user. If you have more than one memory module, remove the one causing the error or if the one causing the error is not identified, remove one at a time and run the diagnostics again, this may identify the one causing the error. If only one memory module, "reseat" the module. Reseat - with power off, remove the memory module, then reinstall.

when you don't know much about the internal workings, sometimes it's hard to pick out the pertinent stuff in a reply. Totally missed the memory thing. Reseated the module, same cycle. Put it in the other slot, now I'm in a blue screen of death cycle. Says there is disk errors, trying to fix, could take up to an hour, but flips off in a few mins and goes to blue screen saying something is wrong, we're collecting info and need to restart. ran diagnostics again and same error code, but different validation number.

this is the mem module I have DIMM,8GB,2400,1RX8,8G,DDR4,NU, I have some old ones from previous machines, how much of that do I have to match? The biggest I have is 1g (replacing 8), but I figure that will at least tell me if it's a memory issue? I have 1rx8 pc2 6400u 666 12. 1rx8 ddr2 5300u and 2rx8 pc2 5300u. Will any of those work if even just to check if it's a mem problem until I can order a new mem module (if that's it)?

The older DDR2 will not work.
May not be a memory problem, unfortunately the only sure way to tell is replace it.

What color is the power button when it won't boot and is it steady or blinking?
When you re-seated the RAM module in the slot, or moved it into the other slot, did you make sure the retention clips get fully locked in place when you were done? And then you should remove motherboard battery and press/hold power button for ~30 sec and reinsert battery to make sure BIOS sees the change.
Do you have an add-in video card in this PC or only onboard Intel HD Graphics? If you don't know, check the pic here. Onboard Graphics ports are in area 1, and add-in video card ports would be in area 2. If you have an add-in card in area 2, the monitor has to be connected there, not to either onboard Intel HD Graphics port.
And if you have an add-in video card, sometimes a RAM error might mean there's a problem with RAM on the video card. So consider removing the add-in video card and connecting monitor to the onboard Intel HDMI or VGA port for testing...

didn't pull the battery, so just did that. Mem fully inserted (this time and last with clips in place), pulled battery and held down power button for over 30 secs. No add on video card, all 4 slots are empty. LPower button was white solid, after putting the mem back in and taking batter out, flashing yellow and 4 beeps..
