3670 Inspiron desktop (also laptops) all W10 wish to stay that way (home systems)

All my machines are running W10 and things are stable and I wish to not change to W11. The machines are used for simple image handling, word processing and web-browsing, no gaming, no streamed movies, no work-from-home operations.

Some study online shows folks suggesting the obvious: switch to Linux (drastic setup and learning curve); pay for extended W10 support (that only lasts a couple of years then goes away); change to W11 (I'm happy with W10 and have no time and attention span for learning a new system) however it seems one obvious solution, add Macafee or Norton security to W10, is never mentioned. Is there some good technical reason for this, for example perhaps W10 doesn't permit or doesn't play nice with 3rd party security?

Curious to see how this is seen by you folks who might know better than me what's going on under the hood.

To simply put, the security software would protect your PC from virus and provide safe internet browsing.  But, it does not provide operating system updates and patches.

For a short time, you won't notice any differences.  After a long while without receiving update support, your PC might experiencing performance issue and incompatibilities.

Ultimately, but probably not immediately software publishers will require Windows 11 for installation, and support for Windows 10 will fade with time.

There are very few real differences between W10 and W11 -- you can even use a shell that neutralizes the user end of them.

Unless your hardware won't run Windows 11, you'll ultimately end up using it (or Windows 12, or whatever comes next).

Thank you gentlemen for your helpful remarks, the desktop can run W11 however at least one of the two laptops probably fails the W11 minimum processor hardware specification.

My app selection has been kept up to date with W10 and the pace of updates is very gradual, for some completely static, I think I can go quite a while before apps start going obsolete. For example I have another Inspiron from 2011 that is happlily running a small suite of apps with W7, it never goes online, and W7 has remained operational without updates.

I take the attitude that if it ain't broke don't fix it and so far as I am concerned W10 ain't broke so it doesn't need fixing, there are other things needing attention first.

Staying offline is a good decision.  Within local network, systems can operate for a long time without the need or concern for support and update.
