Windows 7 - Audit Mode

Hi everyone,

I'm working on my first maintenance image, and had a question that I have not seen answered anywhere.

When I build by images for WDS deployment, I always build the image in audit mode, and configure everything there, as the built-in Administrator account.  At the end, I Sysprep / generalize, and capture it.

Is this the same thing I should be doing, or do I need to be logged in to a user account, in normal mode?

The main reason that I ask, is that I could never get Sysprep's "copyprofile" command to work without being in Audit Mode, and we make quite a few profile customizations.

Thanks,

Hi Ricky -

If you're building a maintenance image for ImageAssist, you do not need to use audit mode.  The tool will Sysprep the image for you and generalize it prior to capturing it.  During the process, it will also provide you the option in the Unattend Creator to "copy profile".  Audit mode is not required for copy profile to work, but you will want to use the local admin account to ensure the copy profile works.
