No drive detected

Hi,

I have been using ImageAssist with no problem until today that we have received a new laptop (Dell Latitude 5410) with a Dell M.2 512GB PCIe NVMe Class 35 Solid State Drive.

If I start the laptop normally, it loads Windows 10 version and it works with no problem. But after booting from the USB to start ImageAssyst Dynamic and click on the Restore option, it says that No Drive is Detected.

I am a basic user for ImageAssist but I do not know how to advance...

Thank you.

@VitiSaGu - apologies for the late response to this inquiry; I am only just seeing it for the first time. I think the forum notification system may have gone on holiday.

It's possible the WinPE drivers on your USB drive don't have support to see the storage hardware on the 5410. Two options.

  1. Download the new 10.x version of ImageAssist and rebuild your USB drive.
  2. Recreate the 8.x USB drive adding updated WinPE drivers. To do this, create a folder named "__Additional_Drivers__" in the ImageAssist install directory located at "C:\Program Files\Dell\ImageAssist". Download & extract .inf drivers from the most recent WinPE 10 Pack to the new folder and run the USB Drive Creator. When the USB Drive creator is run, the additional drivers will be recursively injected into the WinPE boot.wim on the USB drive.

If you ever have a delayed response from our forums, please reach out direcly to our Global ImageAssist heldpesk teams.

I ran into the exact same issue for some Latitude 5510's.

Solution: Go into the BIOS settings and change SATA operation to AHCI. Rerun the ImageAssist and it will recognize the drive.

Hello, I also had the problem you're experiencing with trying to install to an M.2 PCIe storage device.  I was able to fix the issue by upgrading to the newest version of ImageAssist from Dell, which supports this type of storage (it looks like you're probably using an older version that doesn't support M.2 PCIe devices).

I think what I then did was copy all of the Image Files from the ImageAssist USB drive to a PC.  I formatted the USB drive and re-prepared it with the new version of ImageAssist.  If I remember correctly (it's been a while though, so this may not be accurate), I was then able to copy the Image Files back onto the newly-made ImageAssist USB drive.

Hope this helps!
