ImageAssist - DCC not auto-switching between MBR and UEFI

During an image restore, ImageAssist utilizes the Dell Command | Configure tool to auto-switch the system firmware boot settings based on the image type. If restoring an MBR formatted image, the tool will attempt to switch to Legacy BIOS boot the OS after the restore completes. If the image is GPT, it will attempt switching to UEFI for booting. The DCC tool cannot switch between MBR and UEFI on non WMI-ACPI compliant Dell models. In the event that this occurs, you will need to manually change the firmware settings in order to boot the OS after a restore.

Example below: Win 7 SP1 MBR static image failed to boot after image restore. Here are the steps which resulted in the issue & workaround.

  1. Via F12 change boot mode to UEFI
  2. boot up DIA PE and select restore tool
  3. browse to MBR image click restore and allow process to conclude
  4. Select restore and allow for OS to boot (it does not boot and prompts no disk found)
  5. via f12 change boot mode to legacy
  6. OS boots correctly
