How To: Create a Image Assist Dynamic USB drive for restoring an image

NOTE: It is not possible to create a USB drive from within Hyper-V.

Create a TechDirect account and download the latest version of Dell Image Assist from:

                https://techdirect.dell.com/Portal/DellImageAssist.aspx

After you download Image Assist, unzip it to a Windows 10 or 11 desktop.

Note * Please edit the ImageAssist.exe.Config file. Change the:

<add key="SkipApplicationLaunchValidations" value="false" /> to value=“true

Save the file. Proceed to Step 1.

  1. Run the ImageAssist.exe
  2. Scroll the Terms and Conditions | Click “Next”
  3. Which type of image do you want to create?
    • Select “Image Assist Dynamic – (Recommended)” | Click “Next”
  4. Pre-Installation Dynamic Validation
    • Pre-Installation Dynamic Validation | “Click Next”
  1. Welcome to Image Assist Dynamic
    • Select the Gear | Click “Additional Tools" | Click "OK"
  1. Create USB Drive or ISO File
    • Click “CREATE” | Click "OK"
  1. Create USB Drive or ISO File
    • Select the USB key previously connected to the system.
    • Verify “Bootable USB” is selected | Verify You have selected the correct USB Key
    • Click “CREATE USB”
    • The creation time for the USB key varies by system. 13-14 minutes in this example.
    • Click “OK” | Close Image Assist
  1. Download a Family Driver Pack that matches the system on which you are deploying the image.

  2. Copy the driver pack to the 2nd partition “Dell_Driver_Packs_Local” folder on the USB key.

Note* Do Not Extract the Family Driver Pack

  1. Copy the Image Assist .WIM file to the 2nd partition “Dell_Images” folder on the USB key.
  2. Boot the USB key on target system, and select “Restore”
  3. This will restore the image and inject drivers. When completed, remove USB key and reboot the system.

Hello!

I have changed the entry   to "true" but the tool hangs when next is pressed with a spinning arrow indicating generating EULA acceptance and in the background I can see the error regarding "System cannot be a member of a domain" which was present before changing the above entry one step sooner.

Cheers!s

@BumpyLogz

Please open an incident with our helpdesk so they can assist. If you're able to provide the log files - that would be helpful.

What is the line I am supposed to change in the config file.....there is nothing but a blank space after the statement "modify the ImageAssist.exe.Config and change the false value to true for the following line:"
