Black Screen during Windows 7 1st boot - Dell ImageAssist

During the 1st boot OOBE experience on some Windows 7 images, the system will stall at a black screen with the arrow in the upper right hand corner.  This is due to drivers being installed, which depending on the piece of hardware and driver installation code - may take several minutes to complete.  During this time, do not interrupt the process; wait and allow the process to complete.

This is only seen with Windows 7, as the Win8.1 Sysprep process shows messaging as to what it is doing and progress percent with the spin wheel.

Is this reproducible on those three laptops every time?  Are there hardware configuration differences / BIOS setting differences between the passing and the failing ones?  What CAB file are you using?

I have tried twice on those three laptops, the third time that I tried on one of them it worked without using the CAB file. The CAB file is "win7_latitudee5_a11.cab" from the Dell website. I have used the same bootable USB drive with the same wim file and cab file for all the laptops.

I left three laptops with this black screen overnight and nothing happened. I went through the same process without using a CAB file for the drivers and it works. Only that I have to manually install the drivers myself. The laptops in question are Latitude E5440. Funny part is that the first 5 laptops worked fine. Any suggestions?

Last we spoke you were making changes to the image.  Have you been able to get past this issue?

After this week I’ll have more time to look at this, but so far I was only able to replicate the problem in one laptop which took like three times to re-image correctly. I am now working on a Virtual environment and will get back to you on that. If I remember correctly, you wanted to have a look at the hard drive of the PC that I used to create the first image, right? If so, I can send that to you by the end of the week.
