VNX 5500 luns and Windows 2012 server
Can anyone help or tell me what I need exaclty to connect a new windows 2012 file server to a vnx500 LUN???? I have the latest uniphere agent installed and connected to the array thru iSCSI using a local AgentID file. I installed powerpath 5.5 sp1 b512 and cannot see any info in the GUI thought after multiple restarts. Struggling with this and have seen posts were some people have got this working so I'm just curious exactly how to do this.

It appears that MPIO has not taken control of the VNX luns. Since PP is a DSM that sits on MPIO, you need MPIO to take control first.
This usually happens automatically when the lun is presented. But if it hasnt, you need to manually add the vendor string in the MPIO console.
First check what type of VNX is presented...ie Raid 5, Raid 1 or Vraid. Check the device manager>Disk Drives to know.
Once you know that, add the vendor string to the MPIO GUI.
For example its a VRAID lun add the following string:
DGC<5spaces>VRAID<11spaces> Basically after the 5 spaces, you need a total of 16 characters(including spaces).
Reboot when prompted. Once the server reboots, you may see that the device drivers may not have loaded properly.
Check device manager>disk drives to see if there are any yellow bangs on the disks. If so right click and uninstall them, and run a scan for hardware changes.
This should allow PP to take control of the devices.

Apart from checking MPIO, also confirm that the failover mode is set to 1 or 4, where 4 is the recommended setting

i have multiple win2k12 boxes, you don't need to mess with MPIO settings if you are using PowerPath. Make sure failover mode is 4. Describe how you configured ports on VNX, host, switch ..etc.

Added iSCSI connections on server to 10gb spa and spb on vnx array so it has 4 connections. Then installed Unisphere Host Agent 1.2.0 on server. The host would not connect without doing it manually and I added a agentid text file with ip and fqdn in the agent program folder. The installed the power path 5.5sp1 b512 64bit to server. At this point I had MPIO installed as well and it's now not seeing anything even in disk mgmt. I'm removing MPIO and PP starting over to see what happens?

software initiator i assume ? If everything is configured correctly you should see server IQN show up in Connectivity Status/Initiator field on VNX. Unless that's done you will not be able to present any storage as you need to establish connectivity first.

Please see primus emc314326. Also check the EMC Connectivity Guide for Windows and the section on manually setting up iSCSI for W2K8 R2. We will update for W2K12, but the majority of it is correct.
