Vmax LUN shows reserved to both nodes of Windows 2008 cluster
Vmax LUN shows reserved to both nodes of Windows 2008 cluster:
We did a recover to a prod LUN from a clone. Before the restore, we took the LUN out of the cluster and offlined it. Now after the restore, we are not able to online the disk. What is the appropriate process to get the disk accessible to at least one of the cluster nodes? Do we need to shutdown one of the nodes?

Hello, please see the whitepaper EMC Symmetrix with Microsoft Windows 2003 and 2008 Best Practices Planning guide. I believe pages 44-45 expain how to go about performing this: http://www.emc.com/collateral/hardware/white-papers/h6665-symtrx-microsoft-windows-server-wp.pdf

Also, refer to EMC Primus article emc215438. There is a cluster.exe command you can run from the Windows 2008 server that can sometimes clear up the issue. Please read and understand the warning before executing the command.

To resolved the problem, we rebooted both nodes then it showed up as offline. Then we could online it again.
To recover from a clone, Microsoft suggested that we put the disk in maintenance mode prior to the restore. Then you don't need to reboot.

I think that MSCS at W2K8 requires that you set SCSI_Persistent_Reserv on the device level. Look into that. When you take a clone, does the SCSI_Persistent_Reserv "replicate" to the Clone or not? I don't know that.

Yes, the devices in question had SCSI_Persistent_Reserv enabled.
