What are differeces between EMC Clarion and Celera?

Hell all,

I am learning about SAN but I am confused between Clarion and Celera. Which one do we often use to create LUN, iSCSI target, and map to windows host?

Could you please advise me some idea so I will understand clearly.

Thanks very much

Long

Longlyh,

CLARiiON is a midrange storage platform that will be part of your SAN. It's block-level storage, so this is the device on which you'd create a LUN and map it to a Windows host.

Celerra is a NAS device and exports a network file system. It's designed for file sharing, user home directories, etc. In a NAS gateway configuration, Celerra could be part of your SAN, and use SAN disk for storage. In an integrated configuration,

Key difference: CLARiiON exports LUNs on which file systems can be created, while Celerra exports a file system on the network.

Grab the ISM book - it really lays it out clearly there.

Vineett,

I think you may be confusing Centera and Celerra. Centera is used for long-term archiving and is Content-Addressed Storage (CAS), while Celerra is a NAS device.

I understand little bit now. So, I will use Clarion to create LUN and map these LUNS for SQL clusters, won't I?
