The Software-defined Data Center - The three Caballeros finally have their cloudy day

The data center is in major transformation mode. So says Knowledge Sharing author Paul Brant, who posits that data centers are now defined not for their hardware components—though hardware is still needed—but for the software that controls it. For many IT vendors, the traditional business model was to have their own software run on their own hardware. However, as Paul points out, things are changing. The arrival of Software-defined Data Centers represent the final step in allowing cloud services to be delivered most efficiently!

So, what is the software-defined data center? Every data center has server, network, and storage—cleverly described by Paul as the 3 Caballeros (of Disney lore)—and it’s widely understood that the way to the cloud is through some sort of virtualization. But, how do we get there?

Is "the software-defined data center" just another way of saying "the cloud"? Not really. Paul’s award-winning Knowledge Sharing article discusses in depth how the software-defined data center differs from “the cloud”.

The article describes how data centers are going ‘soft’ and why this is so pivotal to transforming the data center into a true cloud delivery solution. It offers best practices that align with the most important goal; creating the next-generation data center to address the business challenges of today and tomorrow through business and technology transformation.
