Hey Rajeev,

I would say that it depends on what you want to do. Either way it is a good basis to build up on, but from what I have seen from the Clariion management track, the ISM is a prerequisite if you want to complete the entire track. You can also see that in the overview here: https://education.emc.com/guest/certification/framework/

It was possible to just take the classroom training without performing the test, but since you are here I am guessing that you want to get certified and in such a case you would need to get an associate level certification first. In case of the ISM exam, it's the E20-001, and the other ones depend on the fact if you want to do a Clariion or Symmetrix focussed certification.

And if I made any grave errors in my reply, someone please correct me.

Rajeev,

Yes, you must clear the E20-001 ISM exam and gain an Associate certification before pursuing a CLARiiON or Symmetrix specialty.  Just to make sure all is clear - we no longer offer any CLARiiON or Symmetrix Foundations exams or credentials.  We used to have product focused associate exams but discontinued that policy last year.

There are a number of very valuable discussions in this community around preparing for the ISM exam.  Here is one example but you can search for others.

Please let us know if you have further questions.

Regards,

Liz
