Problem with Navisphere simulator

Hi,

I am working through the ISM book, with a view to taking the exam at the end.

At the end of section 1, it asks the reader to download the Navisphere Simulator and do the exercises. However, this is a browser based application which requires Java plugin 1.4.2_02 . The problem is that this no longer works with Firefox 3.6 and later versions. This is explained in the following link:

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Java#Java_not_working_after_Firefox_3.6_update

Can you suggest a workaround to this or would it be possible to provide a more recent version of Navisphere that works with recent versions of Java?  Of course, I could spend the next few days Googling for an an answer but if you can provide a direct solution, that would be much appreciated !!

Thanks for the excellent ISM book. Keep up the good work!

Regards,

Kerberos

Kerberos,

Navisphere Simulator 3.28 is the latest version if I am not mistaken.

As far as your problem goes.. did you happen to try using IE 8. It works well with that...

Also as a work around uncheck the automatic update option in Java, by doing so we can definitely ensure that the Java version does not change...

There is another solution that worked for me.. try adding your Java JRE path to your environment variables present in the OS.

Hope this helps..

Cheers!!

Hello,

On my computer simulator working fine in configuration WinXP SP3 + Java Version 6 Update 20 (build 1.6.0_20-b02) + IE6

But I experienced some strange behavior from simulator side and would like to ask two questions

Step 3 - Click Apply, Yes, OK, Cancel

Problem 2:

Returned to configuration again – changes that I did not saved

Sincerely,

Hello Evgeniy,

From what i have experienced in the past using the Simulator, there are issues that are related to Java version.

So it may well be that the 2nd problem that you posted might be related to that.

The 1st issue that you raised, the screenshots in the Lab Pdf also shows the Apply button greyed out. So it might well be the case.

I suggest you uninstall the updated JRE version and install the basic JRE that comes along with the Simulator. Else you can also try it on another machine and check.

This would remove any doubts in our mind.

Do let us know the result, would be useful for everyone.

Cheers...
