Overcoming Challenges in Migrating to a Converged Infrastructure Solution
A Converged Infrastructure Solution (CIS) integrates multiple data center infrastructure components in a single package, enabling IT organizations to reap significant benefits such as pooling infrastructure resources, increasing resource utilization, and reducing costs. For software application owner’s, a CIS offers rapid elasticity, increased agility, and on-demand self-service capability. However, numerous challenges arise and have to be addressed when migrating servers to a CIS.
In this Knowledge Sharing article, Suhas Joshi details these challenges and the strategies for overcoming them. Suhas includes a case study in which nearly 2000 servers have been migrated into the Vblock-based private cloud for a pharmaceutical company with a global footprint. The article will show how to avoid pitfalls and implement strategies and best practices for successful migrations to a CIS.
This article will be of particular interest to data center migration and virtualization team members, cloud architects, project and program managers, planners, application owners, and infrastructure, storage, and networking specialists.
