NFV: Instigation of Telecom Transformation
To cope with rapid changes in the telecom industry and emerging competition, communication service providers (CSPs) are compelled to shift their focus from technology infrastructure to more innovative solutions that deliver a better customer experience. This is where Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) plays a critical role in the future of CSPs. NFV’s comprehensive infrastructure enables SPs to re-invent how they go about business resulting in massive scalability/flexibility within a virtualized software-oriented platform rather than a hardware dependent one.
In this Knowledge Sharing article, Sara Nouh, Mariam Kiryakos, and Reem Mansour discuss business needs that have emerged for CSPs and how transformation in the telecom industry requires agile yet efficient infrastructures. The authors explain the Provider Cloud System (PCS) architecture and provide examples of POC proposals showing how flexible and customizable PCS can be, general benefits of PCS, and its effect on CapEx/OpEx.
