Moving Cloud Transformation to Execution Mode

Shankar Nagarajan, who presented about Cloud and Business Transformation at EMC World 2013 in Las Vegas, has written a new InFocus blog post reflecting on how ready organizations are to execute on transforming their businesses with cloud technology:

After my presentations, many attendees came up to speak with me about the challenges they faced in their own organizations moving to and adopting the cloud, such as deciding on the workloads that belonged there, the skills required etc. It is clear that there are varying levels of maturity among organizations in their cloud journeys. Some are well on their way, leveraging both private and public cloud instances, while others are still consolidating and virtualizing their data centers. But the common factor is that they all want to use cloud technologies. Two other facts stand out. One is that organizations need guidance to execute their business transformation projects. They understand the theory behind cloud, and have imbibed many different frameworks and strategies, but are often mired when it comes to carrying out a plan. One big impediment is not having a playbook to manage the transformation, which can be mitigated through training, such as that offered by EMC. But training alone will not give you the hands-on skills to execute. What is lacking is the practical expertise that is required to succeed with these cloud projects.
