I'd like to start the VNX Foundations Track...but...
Hello all. I've just started looking into starting EMC certification and have been looking closely at the VNX Foundations Track. The "store" allowed me to purchase ISM for 20-001 Starter Kit but wont let me purchase the VNX Foundations track. Receive the error "Person is not attached with the audience type of the given track". Does this mean I need to be an EMC customer to buy this training? (As it turns out I am but I am doing the training at my own expense and not with my organization's training credits).
Is it possible to purchase the Value Paks for non-organizational use?

You should contact your account rep and have them put you in touch with an education specialist.
I did and was woe-fully surprised to learn that buying training without being an EMC customer would be pointless. But according to you, looks like they take it one step further and are basically saying not only do you need to be a customer, but the support contracts for the products you have should match the training you select. Wow
They sure do make it hard to be certified. I'd just prefer harder tests, not barriers to entry. So there goes a VNX guys opportunity to get a job in a VMAX shop out the window... smh.

Hello, I’m sorry to hear that you’re having trouble purchasing the VNX Foundations training.
EMC offers ‘open’ curriculum-based education and certification solutions focused on technology concepts and principles applicable to any vendor environment. These courses are available to anyone working in, or pursuing a career in, the IT industry. The ISM course is one of the ‘open’ offerings. You can view the EMC Proven Professional Framework on our website to see which certification tracks are considered ‘open’ and vendor agnostic.
EMC also offers product specific training that is available to EMC customers, including the VNX Foundations course and the VNX Solutions learning path that supports EMCSA certification. In order to purchase product specific training, an individual’s PowerLink account must be affiliated with an EMC customer company regardless of payment type (Training Units, personal credit card, etc.).
Please contact EdServices@EMC.com if you continue to experience issues.
Kind regards,
Jill

Thank you Jill. That's seems to be the going understanding. Just thought I could buy my own training "off the books" from my company. Since I dont personally own the equipment and I personally am not an EMC customer I guess my option is to officially go through my organization powerlink channel.
Thanks again.

As an EMC customer in a VNX shop, would I be allowed to sit for a Symmetrix solutions exam?

Yes, although you work in a VNX shop, you are not limited to VNX only exams. You can take other product related exams that fit your interests.
Best of luck,
Jill
