Largest private university in India invites more than 400 attendees
EMC India and the EMC Academic Alliance Program joined Amity University, the largest private university in India with more than 50,000 enrolled students, in hosting a second information storage seminar. The first, held at the NMAM Institute of India in December 2008, was EMC’s first academic conference focusing specifically on storage technology.
Amity’s senior leadership understands that the shortfall of skilled professionals in the area of information storage and management (ISM) poses a significant challenge to the IT industry. Besides offering a mandatory ISM course to all of its IT students, Amity was looking for ways to create an awareness of the storage skills gap and how EMC is helping to fill it. The conference was an excellent way of achieving Amity’s and EMC’s common objective.
The EMC Academic Alliance program seeks to prepare the next generation of IT professionals by teaching them how to plan, deploy, and manage today’s complex information storage infrastructures. With more than 400 institutions participating around the world, the EMC Academic Alliance program has educated more than 20,000 students since its inception in 2006.
The event brought together academia and industry leaders to discuss technology trends and industry readiness. More than 100 faculty members (65 of whom are members of the EMC Academic Alliance) and more than 350 students from within and outside Amity University attended the conference.
In his “Recovery to Fighting Fit” presentation, Manoj Chugh, President, EMC India and SAARC* (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation), commented, “Looking back over the past 50 years, we can see that the IT industry has moved through several new and overlapping waves of technology. We at EMC believe the next wave is going to be cloud computing and will touch all of IT.”
Alok Shrivastava, EMC Sr. Director of Education Services, added, “Just as India took a leadership role in establishing the RIM (Remote Infrastructure Management) industry, so has the country led the way in adoption of the EMC Academic Alliance program. As the second country to join, India has well over 100 institutions participating, representing about 40 percent of the program total.”
*SAARC member nations include India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Maldives, and Pakistan.
