Data Security

Hello all,

I am a security professional and am greatly interested in applying my knowledge and experiance towards the Storage area as well. I am seeking advice and guidance on the following

a) Are there any specific security certifications from EMC in regards to protecting data on their systems ?

b) What kind of training can I recieve from EMC so I can transition into the Storage area security.

I have Networking (cisco) and Security experiance and have invested in certifications too. I am going for my CISSP exam (failed twice).

I am also interested in working for EMC in this arena. I belive there is a lot to do in the security arena in Storage field.

I have done some basic searching on the EMC website but over whelmed with the information and writing here for advise and guidance.

Thanks in advance for all the recomendations.

Hi Kfali,

Welcome to the Proven Professional community. Wow you have a lot of Cisco certs! I'm sure you'll get your CISSP!

I've asked a couple of people to come help you out in your quest for EMC security certifications. Did you see our recent announcement of the Data Center Architect certifications? One is DCA - Information Storage Security. Check out this thread for links to the details.

As far as working for EMC - your best bet is to visit the EMC Career page (they are also on Facebook).

What sort of security work have you been doing so far? Also - anyone else in the community if you have ideas for Kfali please chime in!

Thank you very much, its the holiday season and a good spirit is always appreciated.

I have done, security work, as follows:

Appliance based security operations and design, manage firewalls, manage vpn networks, troubleshoot application access on the firewall, co-oridnate with the routing team to troubleshoot end user conectivity, sometimes use sniffer traces to pin point packet related issues.

This also includes Intrusion detection systems along with intrusion prevention systems.

I have also designed corporate security frame works based on compliance requirements, what I do is, I not only configure these devices I incorporate best practises and always keep an eye on the compliance frameworks like Coso, Cobit etc, even if there is no audits mandated, from prior experiance, still I like to steer the enterprize security into a "model"...this has helped me achieve a very positive feedback from vendors and some groups who guage security metrics etc....This is the main strength I bring to the security domain.

I have also designed small scale security frameworks and in between everything.

EMC and Storage area in general has good employment and enough entertaining level of problems to work with. Thats why I am motivated to transition into this area even if I have to scale down a little bit to gain proper "under" standing ......

I will be reviewing the links you sent over the holidays and lets see what is next...

I wish a happy new year and a merry christmas to all the people in here in advance.....will be in touch. I have decided to take the emc2-001 exam as well next month, was reading up on all the comments on this site .....

Thanks

kfali
